LO is most happy when he is sitting up looking at things. We can usually calm him by sitting him on our couch or propped up on the boppy. Should we get a bumbo? Anyone have one they want to get rid of?
I highly recommend the Bumbo. It was indispensable with DD - she loved it and we used it ALL the time for several months. She even sat on many a restaurant table in it (disclaimer: we lived in a very casual town, so no one thought twice about it). DS wasn't as big a fan and it didn't last as long as it did with DD. He was mobile earlier and learned to brace his feet and push out of it. But it was handy while it lasted. You can probably get one for cheap on Craigslist.
I put C in the Bumbo the other day, and he likes it a lot. We got ours off Craigslist and just washed it with bleach water. If you want to try it before buying it, you know where to find us!

This is us too. He just now grew out of it at 6 months and is a big boy, so we got our money's worth. We used it on restaurant tables all the time, got some funny looks, but he never tried to squirm out of it. Got some pretty funny looks having him as a centerpiece.
I think Bumbos are a love it or hate it kind of thing. Ours was totally useless. By the time he had good head/neck control to use it, he was arching his back to get out of it.
I am going to put myself in the hate it camp. These put babies in a really poor seated position-- as an early intervention PT, I only recommend them for babies whose heads need a little rounding out and still spend the majority of their time on their backs.
Ours was pretty useless. Because of the way the legs holes are shaped, DS's legs were too chubby to fit comfortably, plus once he was in it there wasn't much to occupy him. He LOVED his Summer Infant Super Seat though and we are stil using it even now. Can't recommend that enough...he used to just sit in it and play, could put him in it while I shower, plus he eats breakfast and lunch in it. It was more money than the Bumbo but so much more useful for us.

I fall into the hate it camp - there was maybe a three-week period where DD would sit in it. After that, she wanted out. I'm really glad it was a gift and I didn't have to pay retail for it, because it's really expensive for as little use as we got out of it. (Want ours? If you find your way down to Arlington, you can have it.)
I remember a trip to BRU when DS was around 3 months and I was looking at the Bumbo and the Summer Infant Seat. I spent 10-20 minutes trying to decide between the two...
I decided on the Summer Infant Seat because I figured it would last longer. It's worked out great. He doesn't love it as much as he loves his doorway jumper, but he can entertain himself for a good twenty minutes.
We tried the Bumbo once at my BIL/SIL's house and DS did not really like it that much, so I think I made the right decision.

We loved the bumbo. We got ours secondhand for like $15 & just bought a try new. DS loved it, I probably could have put him in it earier than I did. We used it as a highchair too until he was probably 7-8mos old.
I would definitely reccomend looking for one on craigslist, they clean up very easily. I would also check out Kid to Kid in Centerville, I am pretty sure I've seen them there...and if you are up for a consignment sale there is one coming up this weekend in Sterling at the Dulles Sportsplex.

I wondered about this. We put LO in it maybe 5 min a day (in TMI land, I like it for when LO is with me when I am using the bathroom). For little babies it is so cute to see them "sit", but where I think I'll feel much more comfortable having LO use it as a little reading/snacking chair when he's a toddler (I've heard that it tends to fit kids when their thighs thin out again).
MSSaint--Have you seen the Fisher Price Space Saver high chair seat? It reclines slightly for pre-sitter use.
I fall into the "hate it" camp. I don't like the way the baby looks all slouched sitting in it, and I get really nervous about how many people put them up on tables, even though the chair is supposed to be used only on the floor. There was actually a recall of Bumbos last year because of the risk of serious head injuries if a child fell out of a Bumbo when it was on a table. (The recall just changed the warning labels to emphasize that the product shouldn't be used on an elevated surface. The product itself didn't change after the recall.)
