Flying at 32 weeks?

Our babymoon, if you can call it that, will be travelling with our kids back to Disney World when I am 32 weeks for 5 days. We want to do something special with the kids before LO is born and I won't be able to travel once they are out of school.

I asked the dr. that I saw at my last appt. and he had no issues. He just said to take it easy and not push myself too much. I plan to spend a lot of time at the pool anyway.

I know airlines say you can't fly after 36 weeks, but I'm just curious if any of you are flying after 30 weeks.

Re: Flying at 32 weeks?

  • I am flying at around 33 weeks to Germany from NY (we are having LO in Germany with DH's family).  I will have a note from my Dr. and will be wearing compression socks (I recommend you grab a pair to help with circulation).  DH and DS will join me once DS is out of school, but that is too late for me so I am going ahead.  I plan on walking around the plane a lot and my yoga teacher is going to help me with a few moves that I can do while in flight just to keep me from getting too stiff since it is a 7 hour flight.

PS DS was born at 36 weeks so this is why I am heading over earlier just in case!

  • I'll be flying at 31w2d and again 31w4d for my shower at home. My Dr. said she felt fine with me flying at any point up to 34 weeks. The flight is only an hour, so it shouldn't be to bad.

Although at 27 weeks or so I'll be flying long distance for our babymoon/family vacation to Mexico and again my Dr. is completely fine with it. I think the worst would be having to sit in one position for that long, so I plan on getting up and making myself go the bathroom, etc, just to stretch out.

  • The flight is only about 2 hours for us, so it won't be bad and I will definitely be getting up to go to the bathroom anyway.

Good Luck to you on your flight! That's really nice that you'll be with DH's family.

Thank you, it is his first (DS from a previous relationship) so his family is beyond thrilled to be there for her arrival.  I am also looking forward to the flight, I love watching back to back movies guilt free!

  • I'll be flying home (~2 hr flight) for my shower at 34 weeks.  That's the cutoff my dr told me too.  I'm sure it won't be the most comfortable time I've travelled, but is it ever?  I'm not worried, and I plan to pack REALLY light for the quick weekend trip so I'm not hauling anything heavy in the airport.

I'm flying at 32 week from Chicago to Boston and back for a wedding. I have an appt with my OB tomorrow, but she has said all along that as long as things are going fine, she has no problem with me flying until 36 weeks. I second the compression stockings and getting up every hour or so to walk around and of course stay hydrated. Have a great time....it seems like a fun family vacation!

  • I'm flying at 30 weeks from Malawi to NY state, and then from NY to California at 35.5 weeks, that's where I'll be giving birth.  I'm going to see my OB in NY right before I fly so she can write a letter saying I'm fine to fly.  That's something I noticed on the United website when I went to see how late you can fly.  You'll be fine, have fun on your trip.
