DH and I created our registry through Amazon since they literally have everything. If people wanted to buy stuff for us, they wouldn't *have* to purchase through Amazon, but rather look at our registry and go to a brick and mortar store if they wish.
Last night MIL called and she is planning a shower and wants us to create a registry to BRU or Target because "older" people may not know how to shop online. I feel pressured to just create a registry to please her/her friends and family.
To me, if they want to go to Target and BRU to buy clothes that's cool since we didn't register for clothes (and we NEED them) since we figure people will pick out what they want anyway. I honestly can't stand BRU and Target doesn't have a ton of stuff we want. Is it unreasonable for me to stick to my guns and just tell her we registered at Amazon and "that's that?". What would you do?
Re: Create a second registry to please others?
Just make the registry. She's right that there are probably a lot of people who wouldn't know how to look up an Amazon registry, even if they only used it as a reference guide in the stores. And a registry is supposed to be for the convenience of your guests.
I don't really see how having an Amazon registry to work off of would help them find a present for you in a store anyways, if you say that Target doesn't have the things you want...
I did the same thing as you. I only registered on Amazon but debating the same thing. The only people I can imagine who really don't know anything about online shopping are my great aunts...and let's be honest, none of them will be driving down to BRU anyway!
I'll tell my sisters & mom that if anyone balks at my registry, to tell them I could always use baby clothes. Then they'll probably just complain that I'm Team Green. No winning with the old bats! (teasing, obviously)
I must agree with majority of the PP's...I think althou you may not like anything at these places you have to make it a bit more convenient for your guest who are going out of their way to shower you both and your LO with a bit of love through a purchase/gift...
I am sure there is somethng you can register for that you are going to need, bottles, burp clothes, diapers, monitor, wipes, bed sheets...I mean something... not everyone is computer savvy nor do they trust online sites where they have to provide their ccard info...I think I have to side with your MIL on this one...GL!
