Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Tubes

LO has had a sh!t ton of ear infections and the pedi said the next one she's going to refer him to an ENT. I told this to my coworker and she said he was too little for them. Does anyone know the age? I will be consulting Dr. Google as well, but I limit searches about health related issues because I don't want to scare myself! *lol*

TIA! Big Smile

Re: Tubes

  • I don't think my ds got his tubes until he was 1???  But it was wonderful.  Once he got them he felt better & finally started sleeping through the night.  The specialist will know whats best. Hope your LO feels better!!

  • My nephew had constant ear infections and aches until he was nearly 2 and then they put tubes in. I don't know the exact age but if they can do them young like that and it saves him pain associated with infections then I think that is great!

  • Ive personally had six sets of tubes as a kid through adulthood.  I know my ENT works with infants.

Oh & I just talked to my mom. She said she thinks my DS was 8 months because my brother was 9 months when he got his & she remembers it was before he did.  Don't be scared.  They are a good thing : )

  • My DS had them put in at 5 months and has only had one very minor ear infection since.

  • DD had ear tubes put in last week, at 4 months of age. The ENT usually doesn't do tubes on babies until they are at least 6 months, but she was kind of emergency situation. No antibiotics were working, and her eardrums were bulging with fluid. She was in a lot of pain.

Anyway, everything went really well, and she has turned into a happy baby who sleeps much more comfortably (and longer). Good luck! There was another baby in the OR getting tubes done the same day...she was 6 months old.
