Every diaper is leaking!

My new LO is a week old and every time he pees or poops it leaks through on his clothes. We have tried pointing his thingy down, folding the top, not folding the top, making it tighter, adjusting any way we think we can.

We are using NB Huggies, because that is what we were given at my shower and it is the only NB sizes we have. He has peed on them when the diaper is open, and the liquid just seems to run off the diaper, it does not absorb at all. Are these just sucky diapers? He is only 6lbs, so I think the size 1 pampers we have would be too big on him. We never had this issue with my DD.  Any advice?

Re: Every diaper is leaking!

  • Dude, go get a different brand of diaper.  Huggies did not work for DS #1 at all, but worked great for DS #2.  Every kiddo is different.  We liked Pampers Swaddlers for DS #1.

  • I have 309 Huggies diapers sitting in my house that I can't use because they blow at keeping N's pee and poop in. He wets and poop leaks on every outfit I put on him. I've since switched to Pampers and have never had another problem. N was 5pds 4oz but I don't think that this is the reason why...because I've heard others complain about Huggies and 90% off the complaints are from parents of boys. Go figure.

  • Try some different brands.  Huggies never worked for us.  Pampers, Luvs and the Target brand seemed to all work better.

We use Target for DS now and Luvs for DD.

  • I haven't had a leak yet with Seventh Generation newborn.  If you have unopened packs, you can return them to Walmart or Target without a receipt for store credit.

I also really like Target's Up&Up, but we have had poop up the back a couple of times in them.

  • DD leaked with huggies newborns too, and she came out 9lbs 3oz. Forget about what you already have - buy more and maybe try the huggies again when you LO is bigger maybe.

  • I hated the Huggies newborn diapers - I felt like they leaked all the time.  Having said that, the newborn size of Pampers wasn't that great, either.  Once DD was in Size 1 diapers, I found them to be much more absorbent.  DD was 6 lbs., 13 oz. at birth and I think I switched her to size 1 diapers when she was about 8 lbs.

  • Huggies sucked for my son, too.  Pampers (without DryMax) are the best!

  • Huggies were terrible for our son too. Everytime it leaked out the leg, I figured it was because he was a boy so I gave the left overs to my friend that has a girl and she said they leaked on her too, go figure. We used 7th generation newborns (they sell them at babies r us or online) and they were they best for our LO. Also we love the pampers swaddlers which is what we are using now that he is in size 1 and we have had very few leaks, mostly just "poopsplosions" up the back if he hasn't gone in awhile and its a lot. But deff no pee leaks with the pampers.

  • my daughter was slightly smaller than your son, and we needed preemie diapers.
  • Huggies leaked on our LO too. Try Luvs, they seem to work better for boys (and are cheaper too).

  • We haven't really had any problems with the newborn huggies... Though I have a girl... Try making sure that you "open" the diaper up before putting it on if you aren't already ... Pull at the opposite corners and make sure the elastic around the legs isn't stuck down to the diaper or tucked in... The couple of explosions we did have were due to that... If that doesn't help then try another brand

  • We used Pampers Swaddlers and only had one or two pee-mergencies.

  • Is he circumcised? We had trouble with this from the vaseline we had to put on the diaper so it wouldn't stick to him---it made things "waterproof".
  • DS#1 leaked in everything but Pampers.  DS#2 leaked in Pampers and Huggies, but Luvs and Target Up&Up have been good.  Just buy some small packages of different kinds to try!  They all fit different babies differently!
