Do you schedule an appt right away to have the doc do a test? Or are the home tests totally reliable?
I guess I'm asking, when should you make your first appt? I know little/nothing about this, but I can imagine that if/when I get a BFP, I'll want verbal confirmation from the mouth of a professional - is that unrealistic?
Re: If/when you get a BFP - then what?
Married my best friend 5/2/2008
TTC our first miracle since November 2010
BFP 3/16/2011 Chemical Pregnancy 3/20/2011
I plan to call my doc right away and tell them I got a BFP and see what they recommend.
Some doc's will only schedule you after 7 weeks.... so you may have a while to wait for that first appointment unless you are high risk from some other health related issues...
Good point. I have hypothyroidism too. I can't imagine waiting 8 weeks to see a doctor. I have a MILLION questions!
For BFP #1 I didn't have my appointment till I was about 8 weeks along. That is common.
BFP #2 My appointment was around 6 weeks as I was having some bleeding. It ended up being ectopic.
BFP #3 Since I just had an ectopic, I was told to call as SOON as I got my BFP. I did that and went in for bloodwork. Bloodwork showed it was a chemical pregnancy. I never saw my dr. just spoke via phone.
Call and make an appt. Each dr is different. My office doesn't have you come in until about 9 weeks for an exam and dating u/s

With DS#1 my first appointment was scheduled at 8 weeks.
With my second BFP I was scheduled at 8 weeks again but I started bleeding and it ended in a c/p.
Once I get a BFP this time I was told to call immediately for bloodwork to check my progesterone.
If you have no history of m/c then I think they will probably want to see you at 8 weeks. If you have questions the OB's nurse will be able to just speak with you over the phone. Good luck!
When I get my next BFP I will immediately call my RE. They will be monitoring me for several weeks, quite aggressively due to a couple of early losses.
When I got my first BFP I called my RE, went & had my betas drawn & as soon as I had my first results I called my OB. I was seen 2-weeks later, but only because I was a new patient for them & they wanted a pap on file. My OB's office only does urine tests (they do not check betas or P4) & they normally don't see you until around 8-weeks.
Married 1/2/99.
TTC since 4/09.
Diagnosed PCOS. Diagnosed Hypothryoid 11/09.
SHG & SA normal. PCOS Research study started 5/10.
Clomid/Femara cycle #1 - 6/10 = BFN
Clomid/Femara cycle #2 - 7/10 = BFP #1 - Missed miscarriage 9/2/10
11/12 - BFP #2 - 11/22 - m/c
5/1/11 - BFP #3 - Pre-eclampsia, IUGR & bed rest from 32w. DD born via induction 1/4/12.
Because I'm diabetic, I've been told my 1st call after I tell DH is to my endocrinologist, and then my midwife for bloodwork confirmation. Since I'm diabetic and have had a miscarriage, I'll be under a very careful watch by the MW, endo, and then a high risk OB immediately.
ETA: Woo hoo!!! Not a newb anymore

start reading pregnancy books - there is no harm in being well informed before conception.
