WWYD? Bought hanging fern today, it fell and broke an hour later...

I picked up three hanging ferns at Costco this morning for our front porch, and I hung them up when we returned home.  About an hour later, I heard a loud noise, opened the front door, and sure enough, the wind had knocked one off of its hook.  I picked it up and the entire plastic bucket/basket thing is shattered.  *sigh*  Do they sell empty hanging baskets at garden stores, or do you think I should take it back and ask for an exchange (even though it was fine when I bought it)?  So annoying.  Blah.

  • That stinks!  I don't think they would allow an exchange since it wasn't a problem with the basket but the wind that caused the damage.  You can buy hanging baskets .... I bought some at Walmart a couple years ago and they were reasonable.  Maybe get three and repot them so they look the same.  Or it might be cheaper to just buy a new plant.  :(

  • I'd probably go buy 3 nicer pots/hooks from a garden store and repot all 3 since the other 2 will likely have the same result if they fall.

  • I buy hanging ferns every year (they are completely dead by August), but usually at our local garden center, and they come in the nice black iron baskets with brown straw/nest type material in it.  I swore I saved the baskets in the basement from last year, but can't find them, and the only reason I bought them at Costco today is because the plants are HUGE (Iike most things Costco, lol), so even though they came in uglier plastic containers, I thought they were worth it.  I guess I'll just buy nice containers for all three of them.  Now I kind of wish I would have just spent a little more for the slightly smaller ones I normally get.  Oh well.

  • Annoying for sure, but there is no way they would take  back something that you broke, that is an odd question.

Costco is GREAT about returns, the plastic is obviously not sturdy at all, and Costco is usually high quality, so I'm thinking it's not really an odd question.
