Dr Office Vent

I'm trying to get a copy of my prenatal bloodwork and the office wants to charge me $27. They said if it were going to another doctor's office then it's free but the girl I talked to said they "can't just go giving out records to anybody" so they want to charge me. I don't get it. So now I have an appointment scheduled to talk to the doctor to see if he'll give them to me. Grrr Angry

  • Ugh.  That sounds just dumb.  I don't understand why they won't just give it to you.  They are records about you, after all.  Why do they want to keep them a secret?

  • I can understand them wanting to charge an administrative fee for copying, you are using their resources: paper, ink, staff time, etc.  But I think $27 is too much.  Counter offer $5 and meet somewhere in the middle.

  • Do you have online services with your office?  We can print ours out for free from there.

I understand a small fee but $27 is crazy. They weren't willing to negotiate. I asked if I could get a note in place of my records and that's when they said to just make an appointment to talk to the doctor about it. The office girls are known to be douches at times. I think if I go in and ask the doctor then he'll give them to me.

Nope, that would be nice! We're a little behind on the times here.

  • That is so ridiculous that they are getting the doctor involved.  I hope the doctor sides with you and reprimands them for being totally unreasonable and wasting his/her time.

Aah I didn't even think of that.  So I hope they don't charge you for an office visit?

How much is your co-pay?  I'd be supremely annoyed!

Oh shiit, I didn't even think of that. My co-pay would be $20. I'm going to call back and see if I would be charged. I wouldn't be getting examined at all, just talking so I wonder what they would count that as. I wonder if I would be able to talk to the doctor over the phone.
