Hi. Does anyone have experience with placental abruption? I have had bleeding from day 1 of being pregnant. Initially I had daily brown bleeding up until 10 wks, then it turned to red. Some days alot, some only trickles. Ive had atleast 10 ultrasounds which showed no reason for the bleeding. This wk I went for my anatomy scan and the pernitalogist discovered im bleeding from different areas on my placenta. And I have placental abruption. They said the baby is growing good and are not too worried right now and will be closely monitored starting at 24 weeks. I seemed to handle it pretty well but I think its starting to hit me now. Every thing I read turns out bad. Does anyone have any experiences with this they can share? Thank you.
Re: Anyone have experience with placental abruption?
All 3 of my pregnancies have resulted in Placental Abruption. With my first dd, I had bleeding from week 9 to week 17 of the pregnancy. At the end of that pregnancy, they determine the cause was due to septum in my uterus, which I surgery to remove. My second pregnancy, I delivered ds at 33 weeks. At 32 weeks, I was rushed to the hospital bleeding, and they determined that the combination of my higher bp, and the abruption went hand-in-hand. He spent 5 weeks in the nicu, but was a little fighter and is now a perfect, screaming toddler.
My last pregnancy, resulted in losing my dd at 29 weeks. Quite honestly, the pregnancy was going perfect. I was barely even monitored other than the normal doctor visits. One morning, I woke in alot of pain. Dh rushed me to the doctor first, and when they couldn't find a heartbeat, they sent me on to the hospital. After checking me, I was rushed for an emergency csection, and was given 2 transfusions due to how anemic I was.
My stories are not scare you, but to give you a realistic answer. I am so sorry that you're going through this too. Hopefully, your doctors will be much more hands on than mine were and you won't have go through more than just a high risk pregnancy with a beautiful baby at the end.
HTH
thank you for sharing your story. Can you please tell me, did your first pregnancy end OK? You never said either way... Reason I ask is bc that's very similar to my situation. Bleeding from the beggining of the pregnancy well into my 2nd trimester.
I will be closely monitored and have been really staying positive but realisticly I know how bad this is. And the more I think about it, and as more days go on, I am really scared and not as positive as I was a week ago.
thanks again
I did lose my dd at 17 weeks. I think as long as you are being closely monitored, you might have a better outcome than I did. Back then, no one knew why it was happening, and my doctor only discovered I had a large blood clot, 1 week before the abruption. I wasn't even on bed rest. I should also add, I had a septate uterus that was undetected until my abruption. That probably had alot to do with it. Since then, I've had uterine surgery to remove it.
Anyway, just try to stay as calm as possible. And rest as much as you can. I honestly believe if I would have been on bedrest or had tests ran prior to getting pregnant, my daughters may still be here.
I had a full placenta abruption with my third pregnancy at 35 weeks. I had been having some contractions for about a couple of weeks before, then a few days before started bleeding. They were already monitoring me since I am a type 1 diabetic. I had ultrasounds and my placenta was fine. I went in for some monitoring that morning and still everything looked fine. My husband stayed home with me since I had a 17 month old and a 7 year old at home. I had slept on and off all day and was still having contractions, light bleeding. I got up to use the restroom that evening and as soon as I walked into the bathroom, I had excruitating pain and extreme bleeding. My husband called a neighbor to sit with out kids and rushed my to the hospital. It took us about 10 - 15 minutes to get their and I was in surgery right away. I had a full abruption, blood transfusions, but my daughter was absolutely fine. My doctor told me they don't know why I had the abruption, and it doesn't mean I would have another one. I am now 16 weeks pregnant and like you have been reading up on this, and just now have started getting worried. I too had bleeding in the first trimester, and now it has stopped. I go in for an ultrasound in 2 weeks and then the anatomy scan in 4 weeks so all we can do is see. I just wanted to tell my story because I had a healthy baby girl, and was told that it doesn't mean it will happen to me again. The doctors told me they will deliver me earlier than 35 weeks to be safe. I am diabetic and 38 years old so I have a few risks against me. Don't stress, because that will only make it worse for you. I hope my experience, and my current experience helps.
