Do you require babysitters to know CPR in order to watch your LO? It is something that DH and I are going to expect from anyone that watches DD alone for any period of time. It might sound over the top, but in DH's profession he has seen many babysitting jobs go bad. After reading the post below, I think the main reason I wouldn't be comfortable with a kid/teenager babysitting is that they wouldn't know what to do in an emergency. Yes call 911, but there are many things you can do before and during that call that can save a life.
Re: s/o babysitting: sitters knowing CPR
Honestly? No.
I don't even know CPR so for me to expect the same thing of the person watching my kid (family or otherwise) just seems unfair.
Same here.
Initially I thought I did. But in talking to my brother who's a firefighter about something separate he told me the % of people that survive even a properly done CPR, and it was so low that I didn't see the point.
I do like to see it in professional childcare providers b/c it implies some level of training has occured. But I don't care if grandparents or aunts and uncles know it
