Pregnant & Swimming with wild dolphins (PIP)

Just thought I would share a really unique pregnancy experience I had with wild dolphins on my babymoon. Apparently dolphins have affinity for women who are pregnant... I didn?t know this until my husband and I went swimming/snorkeling for a couple miles across a bay on the Big Island of Hawai?i. While we were swimming, a pod of about 30 spinner dolphins showed up and swam around with us for about an hour. This was such an incredible hour of my life ? swimming with beautiful wild dolphins with a 6-month baby belly!

Since then, Hawai?i locals and friends have said that they weren?t surprised that the dolphins spent so much time with me because I was pregnant, one even called me ?a little dolphin magnet.? It?s fascinating that the dolphins could view the inside of my body through sonar, and perceive the image of our skeletons (both me and the baby), as well as two heartbeats, much like how ultrasounds are used to do the same for humans.

Recently I?ve thought about how cool it is that we?ll be able to tell (and show) our baby girl that she swam with wild dolphins before she was born!

    We saw spinners on our whale watch with the pacific whale foundation in February. Very cool to snorkel with them.

    Very cool! So many of those tours activities will be off limits if you do it through your hotel etc., but you really lucked out since those dolphins were wild. Truly Amazing!

    Awesome! I LOVE dolphins! When I was in Hawaii over the 2009/2010 holidays we got to swim with spinners as well. Doing it pregnant would be sooo cool though!

    Amazing!  I just teared up a bit because that is so sweet.  I love dolphins.  I think they are some of the smartest and sweetest mammals ever.

    Same here!! We saw them on our honeymoon almost 3 years ago with PWF.

    THIS IS AMAZING!! What an experience! I love that locals didn't think much of it and called you a dolphin magnet! I always wanted to be a marine biologist when i was little and never heard of dolphins being able to "see" a pregnant woman's baby. That's just an amazing thing to wrap my head around. Thanks so much for sharing!

    so jealous. How were you allowed to do this? I wanted to to this on our honeymoon/babymoon when I was like 13 weeks on our cruise and it said pregnant women not allowed..:(

    We were just swimming/snorkeling in the ocean on our own and wild dolphins came up - there was no one there to say we couldn't.

    That's cool. We had a less intimate experience with dolphins on our babymoon in Cabo almost 2 wks ago. We went out whale watching and saw several hundred dolphins moving in a huge school. The guide estimated 1000 since we saw so many on the surface, she figured there were probably 2 or 3 under each one. It was crazy. Tons of dolphins stretching 3 football field lengths. Later in the trip we saw parts of a mommy whale and her baby too. I actually just made a little nursery picture to hang with a whale on it.

    This!  I am jealous as well!  We had a chance to swim with dolphins while we were in Cozumel and I was 9 weeks pregnant and they wouldn't let me do it.  So MH got to do it all by himself while I had to sit in the viewer area and pout!  Awesome pictures!
