Question about high back carries

So, I'm an unabashed lurker, but I need some advice! Like many new mamas I started with the Moby and the Ergo. However, we are at a crossroads in our BWing journey. My daughter is 4 months and isn't really happy with either option right now.

She wants too see what's going on more than the Moby front holds will allow her, and is still too little to put on my hip. She also isn't really big enough to use the Ergo on my back safely, but I think she'd really appreciate the view from a high back carry, and I'd appreciate two free hands. I've come to the conclusion that I need a new carrier/wrap/something! I've looked at mei tais like the Babyhawk, and of course back wrapping is an option but is intimidating (and seems like good wraps are expensive).

Does anyone have any experience or recommendations they want to share? What worked or didn't work for you?

Re: Question about high back carries

  • I've attempted (and failed) at back wrapping. I just don't think I have the patience for it!! Although there are many here that have mastered that skill. Lots of video tutorials help. Either way.. I started out mostly wrapping and have now been sucked into the world of MTs. It's the easiest way for me to get a good high back carry with a good seat for my LO. I think it depends on the person though :)

  • I flat out couldn't do a high back carry wrap and so I got a Babyhawk Mei Tai and love it. I can get Isaac up in about 45 seconds and he loves to be able to look over my shoulder.

  • Is a high back carry even possible with a moby-type wrap? I've never attempted but I'm assuming the fabric is too stretchy? Also what is a recommendation for a front/forward carry. I cannot get DD to face me. She wants to see the world!

You're right, a Moby is too stretchy for any back carries.  You definitely need a woven.
