Started Ferber tonight, and LO has been crying for 2 hours straight. I didn't really have a Plan B, but I'm going to get her out of her crib in a few minutes. Anyone else have a fail at the first try? I'm going crazy from the lack of sleep.....
I'm sorry. That's rough. Have you been going in at intervals (some people don't realize Ferber is different from straight CIO)? She may just not be ready yet. Some babies can't self soothe very well until 6+ months. I hope it goes better for both you and baby.
We tired once and it didn't work for us. DS has reflux and he got himself so worked up, I was worried he would choke. We gave it another two weeks and it worked that time. Good Luck. It is a process it will work eventually.

If your mommy instincts tell you it's wrong, don't do it. But it is heartbreaking. Luckily DD only took two nights, but that first night I went on the back porch and cried. But she's been going to bed on her own ever since, and I cant imagine not doing it. I wouldn't take LO out of the crib for long though. Soothe by touch if you can, and just gently calm her if you have to pick her up, but not for too long or it may seem like a "start over".
I tried and failed last night too! Lo has been sleeping in a RnP but is getting too big and wakes often. He hates his crib and screams every time I put him down. I tried waiting the short intervals and the screaming became more intense. I ended up rocking to sleep, placing in the crib which lasted 3 hours. Then LO woke to eat and screamed in my arms for 2 hours. DH eventually was able to rock to sleep and placed in RnP around 3am. I was up at 6 for work. Exhausted!!!!
@ shaw - This sounds exactly like DD! She sleeps in the RnP also, and HATES her crib. We waited the intervals up to 7 minutes, but it just got worse for the 2 hours! We picked her up and she fell asleep in the RnP, but only for about 3 hours. Super fun. I'm sorry you are also going through this, but its comforting to know I'm not the only mama (still) up at 3am
Re: First night of Ferber = FAIL
It can take time. It's about consistency more then anything. The first couple nights can be hard.
It took about 3-4 days for Remy to really start getting on that sleeping schedule.
