Anyone have dark wood bedroom furniture

I'm trying to decide if dark finished furniture (like espresso, dark cherry, black) is a bad idea for a child's room. If you have it, does it show every scratch and nick?

Re: Anyone have dark wood bedroom furniture

  • We just got dark wood for DS's room. It's beautiful.  So far, no scratches or nicks...  We got the touchup marker that matches the stain just in case.

  • We have white furniture and it shows everything mark, ding, ect...I dream of getting dark furniture for DS's room and then a marker for the nicks!

Me too!  One of my fantasy projects for when the little one is in school full time is to sand down all the white furniture and re-stain it dark.

  • We have dark cherry in DD1's room and I don't notice anything.
  • DS has espresso colored furniture and it definitely shows every mark.  But, we also have the marker to cover them up.  One issue is that it shows every particle of dust like crazy.  His room always looks dusty no matter how often I do it!
  • I have dark wood in the master, and it definitely shows dust! Marks not a big deal, but I have to dust the tops a couple times a week! DDs room is white and we have zero issues with it.

  • We have it in our bedroom and for our dining table. I love the look of black, but you have to dust it daily to keep it looking nice and clean. Cherry would probably hide the most out of the options you listed, especially for a kid's room.
  • I just don't like white, and really like the look of the dark woods. Thanks for the replies. Now to find a style I like in our price range.
  • This is what we just got:

with the 6 drawer dresser, the larger mirror, side table, and longer ladder.  We did not do the drawers/trundle.  The quality is great.  The dresser is a bit more narrow than I would've liked (I bought it sight unseen), but he has a walkin closet, so I guess it doesn't really matter in his room.   We may order the desk next...

  • We have dark cherry wood in our bedroom and our 4 year old has it in her bedroom. It is gorgeous but you do have to dust every other day or you can see the dust. As a matter of fact as soon as you are finished dusting you can see dust on it! That is a downfall but it is soooooo nice! It looks very classy and she will have it forever since we got a full size. We also got the marker with it when we bought it (came included) but never had to use it yet and dd got her bedroom set when she was 20 months old.
