I have mine on Tuesday in the late afternoon. I was told not to fast, just to drink the glucose drink w/in the hour of the appt. No other special instructions. I know it varies by doctors/practices how they handle this. I'm just curious, if you had the non-fasting test, did you really eat normally the day of? I'm considering eating only protein for breakfast and then fasting for the rest of the day until the test. I guess I'm kind of paranoid...
Re: If you've already had your (non-fasting) glucose test, come in
I ate normally... he just told me not to eat or drink anything within that hour of taking that drink....
I am not diabetic lol... everything came back fine
I haven't done mine this pregnancy yet but did in my first pregnancy.
My dr. said the best results are just from eating normal. Don't down a dozen doughnuts or anything the day of, but eating like a normal person is best and will get you the most accurate results.
In fact he told me that fasting can skew results/cause issues because if you drink the glucose on a completely empty stomach it'll make you sick.
He told me if you have GD, you have GD and unless you ate sugar by the spoonful your results will be fine.

This.
I agree for the most part, but many of us have taken the one hour and failed, then passed the three hour. Without spoonfuls of sugars. So the test is more of a preliminary screening, than a you-have-GD-if-you-fail-it one.
That being said, it sure would be nice to pass the one-hour test and avoid the three-hour one this time...

Exactly what I'm trying to avoid. I think I'll stay away from fruit and simple carbs anyway, it can't hurt. I've been living on fruit lately. Thanks everyone!
well, I failed the one-hour and passed the three-hour with flying colors, so it's possible I did something wrong? I had an egg for breakfast then some lentils around 11 a.m. My test was at 1 p.m. -- perhaps I should have waited longer than two hours? Perhaps lentils are a bad choice?
I was really upset when I found out that I had to take the three hour, and it wasn't much fun. But I was so relieved when I got the good news on Friday that the first test was a fluke.
Thanks for asking this question. I have to go take my test on Thursday, and I'm doing it in the morning, shortly after I get up. My doctor told me that I can eat before I drink the stuff, but not eat after I drink it. I figure I'll just get up and have Cheerio's like I do on most days I WFH and then drive to the test and drink that on the drive there. She said to make sure I drink it at least 15 minutes before getting to the test (it's a 20 minute drive) and then I'll have the 10-minute wait inside, so it doesn't wear off..
