Babies: 9 - 12 Months

What can LO identify?

DS is 11 months old and can identify a few things in the books I read him. He can also "transfer" some things to--like a purple balloon in one book and then again in another book. He knows egg and moon from the Hungry Catepillar, flowers, balloon, butterfly, truck, boat, monkey.

Re: What can LO identify?

  • Hmmm. Baby, Ball, Balloon, Kitty, Doggie, Mama, Dada, Preston, Gramma, Grampa, Milk.

He does not say any of these things though. Although he will roar like a Tiger and he does say Mama, and Dada.

  • she knows where her toes are and her feet, we are working on belly, she knows to look for Ozzy (our cat) when we ask her where bubby is. she knows what milk is. she can say mom, and dada but shes stuck on mom right now everything is mom. and oh-oh
  • I'm a lurker, but I wanted to jump in.  :)

Our son's first thing that he was able to identify was "light switch."  Um, yeah.  He now also knows ceiling fan, water (I guess he's big into utilities), hair, glasses, nose, nurse, mommy, daddy, telephone, and some of the animals on his walls.  He doesn't talk or point yet or anything like that, but he looks for those things when we say the words.

  • Light, microwave, keys, clock, family members, I'm sure there's more. This is what he points out when asked.

  • Um... Apparently, I have some work to do.

DS knows who Mommy and Daddy are, but I don't know what else he can identify, since he's not pointing and doesn't say the names of things (just says "uh-oh," "yay," and "cheese" if I tell him to when I'm taking his picture). He goes apesh!t when he sees his bottle, so I assume he can identify what that is....

What do you mean by "transfering" things?

  • He knows Mommy, Daddy, Kitty, bink, bottle, ball, grandma, book, froggy(his humidifier), guitar, diaper, and spoon. There's probably more, but I'm tired.

This is us too. I'm sure DD knows words, but she doesn't really point and I guess I haven't made an effort to say things like "Where is the cat?" I'm pretty sure she knows "kitty" because I saw her looking around for him when I said that last night. And she knows "milk" for sure.
