Babies: 6 - 9 Months

7 mo still needs swaddle for naps?

My LO is 7 months and loved to be swaddled. We finally broke the swaddle habit and night and he sleeps just fine without it then. Naps are a different story. We cannot get him to sleep longer than half an hour without the swaddle, no matter what. With it, he sleeps 2 hours and doesn't get OT. What Gibran, should we just keep swaddling for naps? WWYD? Thanks!

  • We are in the exact same boat.  DD is 8 months old though.  We keep saying we are going to deswaddle her naps, and we started trying today (like your LO, she sleeps fine at night unswaddled).  She slept for 40 minutes in the morning this morning, and after an hour of her whimpering this afternoon, we caved an swaddled her.  She fell asleep immediately.  Not sure what to tell you, but I wanted to let you know you are not alone!

  • Why don't you start with just unswaddling one arm during naps.  Give it a few days, then try both arms (keeping abdomen swaddled), then give that a few days, then get rid of the swaddle completely.  This is what we had to do with our LO. GL!!!

  • DD is 7 months and swaddled all the time so I have no advice but just wanted to say you are not alone!  She is a terrible sleeper so we are working on that first and then we'll figure out how to get her to go w/o the swaddle.

At this point I'm pretty sure we are going to be teaching her college roomate to swaddle though

  • Are you willing to let him cry it out? I have a CIO thing I found specifically for naps.

  • I wouldn't sweat it- my 6 month old is still swaddled- if baby is sleeping- do what you need to do.

  • We do the one arm swaddle at night, since DD still wont sleep unswaddled but we do full swaddle for nap time also. Right now she's actually in a woombie because she was so cranky and over tired tonight that I wasn't risking a night with no sleep!  You are not alone!
  • Thanks everyone, I'm glad to know we're not alone. Maybe we should just hope he grows out of it like he did at night. I have tried CIO and he really didn't calm down at all. I don't know why I'm having such a hard time doing it as I did Ferber with my first son but L doesn't seem to respond very well to CIO at all. Oh we also tried the one arm thing, doesn't work as we have to do the double swaddle and if he does have an arm out, he just rolls over. Thanks again for all your help!
  • Our DD is 7 months and still swaddled both at night and for naps.  She will be until she can quit pulling the paci out and getting upset about "someone" pulling it out.  lol
