I finally got home after being out since early this morning. I had one class (quiz day!) this morning, and then spent a couple of hours running errands. On Friday afternoons, I volunteer at a local pregnancy resource center that provides free testing and parenting classes. This went really well, but by the time that I left, I was feeling achy and ready for a nap.
The nap didn't happen. I couldn't get my car key to turn in the ignition. The wheel wasn't locked or anything; I think something has recently broken inside the steering column. It's been difficult to start for a few days now, but it was absolutely impossible this afternoon. After about 15 minutes of trying to turn the key (resulting in a painful blister on my finger), I stepped out of the car to call DH at work. And locked the keys in the car.
Because our car is relatively new (to us), we haven't gotten around to making a spare key yet. And DH had taken the bus to work this afternoon, so he didn't have a car to come and pick me up. He eventually had to have a co-worker drop him off with me and the car on his break, at which point we attempted to get it unlocked for over an hour. We finally gave up and called a friend to drive him back to work and to take me home.
So basically, my keys are locked inside a broken car and I'm probably going to have to get a ride back out to the clinic to meet a locksmith at some point. But the locksmith places are all closed now. I may miss my friend's (more of an acquaintance's, really) baby shower tomorrow morning, which is slightly depressing. All around, it's just been a long day.
Sorry for the vent; I'm usually pretty go-with-the-flow. But DH and I have had a lot of trouble with cars lately, which is why we're currently sharing one (mine decided to all but explode a few months ago), and it's been tough. I hope you ladies have had wonderful days today though!
Re: A really rough afternoon (vent)
sorry about your crappy day. What about calling AAA? In Canada its only about $75 to get them to open your door for you. Or, just kill two birds with one stone an dhave them open your door AND tow you to a shop.
I hope your weekend gets better.
You guys are so sweet! Part of me feels like a whiny child, considering that LO is doing so well and a lot worse things could happen than having car trouble.
That's a great suggestion about AAA! They'd probably charge about the same here; I think locksmiths here typically charge about $80 to open a door. If DH isn't able to get it open (he really thinks he can if he returns with a coat hanger; he's done it before), then I'll try this!
