Help me with cloth diapering?

So my entire pregnancy and also before I got pregnant, I figured I would just use disposable diapers because they are easier. Well I was talking to my mom and sister and they were really recommending cloth diapers. My mom is going to be my babysitter since she is retired and she said she does not mind working with cloth diapers at all especially since myself, and my brother and sister were all in cloth diapers. So, I'm basically in my 3rd trimester now I'm changing my plan. I was hoping some of you would be able to guide me to a good blog or website on how to get started or maybe you yourself has any good tips for me - I would really appreciate it :) Thanks ladies!

  • I was the same way as you - always thought I'd go with disposables. However, after seeing my brother and SIL use cloth diapers I realized how easy it is! And quite frankly, much cuter Stick out tongue

They use the BumGenius AIO with snaps, and thats what we're getting. Its the only CD I know about. We'll probably use sposies for the first few weeks when the baby is a bit too small for the cloth.

Good luck! You have plenty of time to research and get diapers before LO comes.

  • Here's a site with info on CDing: https://goodwifeinthekitchen.blogspot.com/2009/10/go-green-cloth-diaper.html

    Good sites to purchase CDs:

    www.cottonbabies.com

    www.kellyscloset.com

    www.jilliansdrawers.com

I would do a LOT of googling. You still have plenty of time to build up a stash. I would also check out a local CD store if you have one. It helps to see and touch the CDs in person.

For my stash, I am doing GMD prefolds and mama-made fitteds with RaR, Thirsties Duo, & Bummis Whisper Wrap covers for the NB/Sm stage. I also have BG AIOs once he outgrows the NB sizes.

  • The links above are good, I also like the Dear Baby blog: https://dearbabyblog.com/post/3200884783/cloth-diapering-101-choosing-a-diaper#disqus_thread

As pp said, do a lot of googling and research.  There are many types of CDs to choose from, you just need to figure out what's right for you!  Also check out the CD board on the Bump.

  • The cloth board here is good but kind of overwhelming.  Lrachelle has a blog in her signature that is a great resource!

I totally second this. I have taken a cloth diaper class and know what diapers I want to get, and I still found her blog incredibly insightful.

  • I just starting CD'in DD1 a couple months ago and the thing I found helpful was the Jillian's Drawers CD trial (linked above) it gave me such a good variety of types to try out.

I do know that I am not planning on CDing DD2 until she is out of the meuconium stage and maybe out of newborn diapers.

I had a friend who did CD's on her very tiny little guy and she ended up having to buy some sized diapers to fit him that she couldn't use for very long. Plus if this DD is anything like her sister she will use upwards of 18 diapers a day for a bit.

It's not as daunting as it seems to get started! GL!!
