Confused about what size breastshields I need....

So I am not sure what size breastshields I should be using with my pump.

Right now I am using 24mm - and I also have th 27mm. I feel like with both, I am getting a lot of my nipple in the tube and it does not rub against the sides. None of the aereola (brown area) goes in, but I feel like what does go in is too much?

What my biggest issue is that I also wait to stop pumping until there is no more flow for 30-ish seconds. But when I remove the pump, and I squeeze my breast, milk come shooting out.

It is very frustrating because I hate to feel like I am not emptying all the way. Would a different size shield help with this? Or do other people experience this as well?

Re: Confused about what size breastshields I need....

  • I think that happens to most people.  The pump just can't get everything.  Are you doing breast compressions when you pump?  That really helps get more out.  You could try a smaller size, but if you aren't noticing a lot of the areola getting sucked in and you aren't experiencing pain, you probably don't need it.  I had to switch to a smaller size. I don't notice a big change in amt pumped, but it definitely stopped tearing up my nipples!  There was NO way I could continue to pump with the larger size
