I think they end when they finally move out around 18 or so. My boys have the battle of the tantrums. It is fun when they decide to throw a dual tantrum. Put the "i'm ignoring you look on" Once they master what this looks like, they do get better.

Adrian will throw a fit for ANYTHING. He throws it when I put him in the car seat, when I change his diaper, when I change his clothes, when I put him in his high chair, etc, etc. Most of the time I have to bribe him with snacks or a toy to get him in his car seat. Not good, I know, but I have very little patience left these days.
Please tell us it gets better. My friend has a 3-yr old and he's a madman, so that's not reassuring.

The car seat is one of the places that I really do not get too much of a fit, yet. He has learned that if he stiffens his back, I can not get him into the seat. And he will giggle like crazy and look so prout of himself that I can not get frustrated. I let him stand up in the seat for a moment or two and then wrestle him around into the seat.

The car seat tantrums are why Aaron is now forward facing--even knowing the AAP views on this, even before recent reports. He was distracting me so much that I found it hard to concentrate on driving. At least now he loves getting into the car seat--even climbing in on his own.
How about this...Noah is showing signs of temper tantrums and he is barely 6 months!! Up till recently he has been the most laid back, easygoing kid, always smiling and pretty calm. The past week he has started throwing his head backward and arching his back and crying when he is unhappy; and many things are making him unhappy these days. He does this when he finishes on one boob while I'm trying to get him switched to the other, when I'm trying to get him dressed or undressed, when I put him down instead of holding him...the other day he was playing with the TV remote and hit some buttons that messed up the TV. When I took it away to fix it, he started crying and flailing.
It's pretty funny because he is so little and his crying is still kind of cute...but I am seriously hoping this is not a foreshadowing of our future. Yikes!

Luckily we don't have tantrums here. She had a short period where she would sometimes scream when she wanted something, or stiffen her back going into the car seat, but it seems to have passed now. Even those were not really tantrums. I do see plenty of tantrums from other kids her age and kids older than that, at least up to 3 or 4.
