Any tips on how to make bathtime more enjoyable?

DD hates getting a bath.  She cries the entire time.  The water is at a warm enough temp and we try heating the bathroom so she's not too cold when she gets out.  Any tips or does it get better as they grow?

  • My son was the same way. Now that he is bigger, I would say at around 4.5-5 months he really started to enjoy getting wet and splashing. The baths just kept getting longer, less crying, playing more with toys. Just keep doing what you are doing, and good luck!

  • Ah, i just noticed you live in Woodbury. My Dh used to live there, then we lived in IGH. We are just starting to look at apt/townhomes, moving back over there in Spring. Love that area!
  • Woodbury is great!  It has just about everything we need and feel safe in our neighborhood.  The only downfall is that I have to commute to Mpls for work which is pain.  Good luck on the move!

  • My LO used to cry until a friend told me to make the water warmer, I now bathe her in the same temp that I shower at and she loves it. I initially thought it would be too warm but she likes it that way. Good luck.
  • I use 2?washcloths...one to wash her & another one, I soak with warm water & put it over her belly. ?She loves it!

  • I had the same experience until trying to help with DS's constipation I read to lay them in warm water to where it touches the belly and massage the belly.  I braced myself for the normal screamfest that used to ensue during bathtime...and then he began to smile, and splash.  Now we start all baths relaxed with a light tummy rub and then playing before I get down to  thewashing part.  I think before too much of his body was exposed to the cold, the water wasn't warm enough, and I was trying just to rush through the getting him clean phase.  Now we do soap every other day, but baths most nights for splashing.

Now only if someone could come up with a way to get him out of the bath, dry, and dressed without screaming!!!

  • Luckily my baby has always liked bathtime. I usually put a little towel under her between back and bathtub. Today the ones I normally use weren't clean, so I tried it without - and she cried for the first time. So I went and got a different towel to place down and she was fine.

I'd try slightly warmer water and a towel above and/or under him.

  • We've found thatthe sound of  leaving the water and exhaust fan running soothes our little one.  Also, the warm wash cloth on the tummy worked well too.
  • Wow these are great tips, I am so glad U asked.  My LO hates bathtime also
