CD mix for labor/delivery

My FI and I are fairly... eccentric by most standards. I've already told him (on slightly joking) that for delivery, I'm wearing war paint and he's going to be playing a  mixed cd with songs like Eye of the Tiger, We Are the Champions, We Will Rock You, You're the Best Around, etc.

So I was wondering, are you going to be playing any music during delivery? If so, what's your playlist going to look like?

Re: CD mix for labor/delivery

  •  We had a lot of classic and soft rock.  Simon and Garfunkel, George Harrison, Bob Seger etc.  Nothing that was too intense.  When I was in pain I didn't want any music on, I was so uncomfortable...EVERYTHING annoyed me from people talking, my husband touching me, the Dr.'s poking and prodding and any music.  It's amazing how a little pain management turned my frown upside down and we eventually turned on the music.

  • Push It by Salt n Peppa is a must haha.  Also, I'm Coming Out by Diana Ross, and Hey Baby by No Doubt.  For funsies.

YEEEEES!!!! I didn't even think of those! *adds them to the playlist*

I'm hoping that the fun behind all this music will be somewhat of a pain relief all by itself. I figured if FI and I are going to be ridiculous, it'll help keep my mind of the pain. Not to mention, it'll be a good way to prepare baby for the odd parents he'll have to deal with for the next 18 years! lol

Great idea, I hope you can actually enjoy it!  One more I just remembered:  Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash......pretty sure you won't be laughing when it happens though ;)

  • I listened to music during my first labor. Paul Simon, Grateful Dead, The Beatles. Very mellow stuff. It was nice. I'll have to start working on a playlist for this labor. It'll probably be more of the same and some newer stuff that I love like Ray Lamontagne, Ryan Adams, Amos Lee, etc.

I laughed so hard I started snorting! FI also suggested Maxwell's Silver Hammer, but only if it's a boy (that's the name we've chosen). I'm completely no longer terrified of giving birth now! ^_^ Thanks for the suggestions!

  • We had the Cowboys game on during labor (more for DH...LOL) but I made him turn it off for the delivery. I definitely would not want music on during delivery but that's just my personal taste. I think everything is so hectic and overwhelming anyway, I probably wouldn't even hear it!
  • With DS, we watched Ferris Bueller during delivery. I had a great shot of the TV over the doctor's head. It was actually very comforting. Leading up to delivery, we watched Curb Your Enthusiasm reruns on my H's computer....def. relaxing and nice.

  • For BF two years ago, Target had the 10 seasons of Friends on sale for $3.99 a piece.  I bought all 10 seasons.  I watched all 10 seasons while I was in the hospital.

I never got to labor, but it was of great comfort to have a laugh after my son's dramatic birth.

Glad you like them haha.  I've been keeping a list of these good ones over the past couple months, I'll have to add your suggestions to it too.

  • I didn't bother making any kind of music track for giving birth. Honestly it was painful and once I got the epidural I slept, woke up and gave birth. I never even thought about watching tv or listening to music.
  • Great choices :) I'm more of a Jack Johnson Pandora station kind of girl, but whatever works for you! Music really helped me relax during my first labor and delivery. I still associate a lot of songs I hear with the day.

  • first off... hilarious. :)

I've always said I planned to  bring a laptop with all seasons of Arrested Development. :)

  • We listened to the Across the Universe soundtrack while I was in labor. Though mostly I just remember the sounds of my own screams and cursing. Hrm.
  • I don't think I'm going to worry about it this time around.  I ended up going into labor at the birthing center and I was totally unprepared without my labor goody bag, which included my ipod.  So they had some enya that they played for me.  It was perfect.  I think back at how I thought I wanted to hear all this pop and rock and things I listen to every day.  That would have failed.  I would have been like, "turn that _____ off!"  LOL.  Soothing background music was exactly what I needed.
