side effects of going off the pill?

I know that everyone is different but just wondering what, if any, side effects people had going off the pill?  I've been on it about 5 years and just went off starting this week.  I had a headache last night with a weird sensitivity to light and have had a little bit of an upset stomach.  Could be a coincidence that I don't feel well this week... but just thought I'd check.   Thanks!

Re: side effects of going off the pill?

  • Changes in hormones have been known to cause migraine headaches, which can cause the symptoms you listed... Could be a coincidence, but probably nothing to worry about.  If it continues and is concerning you, you could put a call in to your doctor.  GL!

BTW - If you are going off BCP's to try to conceive - definitely wait a cycle or two before trying.  Hyper ovulation is common after coming off the pill (see my siggy) Wink

  • I didn't really have any issues. I had been on the pill for about 6 years when I went off (mainly went off because I kept forgetting to take it, and DH worked overnights so we never really saw eachother). My cycles became very inconsistent, and 5 months later I was pregnant by surprise.

I went off the pill again in October 2009, and was pregnant 2 weeks later. I spent weeks in constant fear that we were going to have twins because of hyper ovulation (like pp mentioned), LOL.

  • I had hormones changes when I got on and off but it was actually worse when I got on the pill for me anyways
  • I was lucky and didn't really notice too much of a change after going off the pill. My first cycle was long, but after 5 months they've started to even out and we're still TTC, but I've heard it's not unusual for it to take that long. I do have low progesterone levels currently, though, and I wonder if that's from being on the pill? My doctor is putting me on a supplement, but if you are TTC your doctor can always test for you all of those things.
