Judge me: bad or good idea?

Putting my almost 11 month old in front of Sesame Street for up to 30 minutes a day to get my daily cleaning done.  What do you think?  I haven't done it yet, but I am thinking about it.  I thought I'd be a no TV mama, but desperate times call for desperate measures, right?

  • My pediatrician always told me that and hour or less a day is fine.  Soooo, that's what we do.  GL!

  • I turn on Sesame Street for my kids while getting lunch together, so obviously I don't see anything wrong with it.
  • better yet, put on Bravo or a soap so you can can clean and listen. He doesn't have a clue what's on that screen.

  • Do it.  For some reason, my kiddos can play with the background noise and not really pay attention.  If it is too quiet, they come looking for me.  So this is what I do to get dinner ready without someone climbing on me by the hot stove.

  • YOu gotta do what ya gotta do.  I put a movie on or their favorite cartoons, usually Disney, and get my stuff done.  We give credit to them learning their ABC's and a lot of other things, from watching those shows.  : )

  • I think 30 minutes is fine.

  • I let DS watch TV now more than ever because of bed rest. Sigh....

I think the first time he watched TV he was 14 months old, and it has been an addiction ever since! But it was the only way I could go to the bathroom without him following me or without me worrying that he's getting into trouble without me.

I say, do what works for you. Those 30 minutes of TV time are  sometimes worth their weight in gold!

  • I think up to an hour is fine.  You need to get stuff done.

  • I'd do it.

FWIW, I could read and write at age 3 (no joke) and my mom credits Sesame Street for a lot of it lol.  She also read to me a ton but seems if a kid is going to watch TV, Sesame Street is a good choice!

  • I do it in the mornings with Dora while I start laundry and she eats breakfast.

  • I don't see any problem with it but we tend to watch more tv than we probably should.  Either way though a half hour a day and Sesame Street isn't going to hurt anyone.

  • Not a big deal.  But he/she will really come to like Sesame Street, whether you want him/her to or not.  :)

  • We do one or two half-hours a day.  I don't see the harm.  Yes, they could be doing something more productive or fulfilling instead, but everyone needs some down time.

  • Go for it.

  • My DD used to watch Sesame Street in the morning before I quit working.  She ate her breakfast with Elmo while I got the rest of our stuff ready to go.  I don't see a problem with it.

  • Whew! Glad to hear the results of pp's. If it works, do it, although my kids wouldn't have sat that long at that age watching sesame street. I know because I tried. It works for my 3 year old though and I don't feel guilt about it. So long as it's just a short period of time.

  • I do it.  It's just 30 minutes.  Then I take him into each room as I'm cleaning and talk to him about what I'm doing to keep him entertained.
  • OK by me! I turn on Sesame Street almost every night- it's the only way I can make DS's dinner without him standing at the gate to the kitchen screaming his head off and trying to climb over it.

30 minutes a day is fine, IMO.
