She called tonight to tell me and DH that she wants to buy them one, to see what we think.
I don't know what to think. We do not have a fenced in yard, or any intentions of making it such. Do you have to change your insurance to have one of these things in your yard? Are they too young?
What would you do? My first inclination is to say no, but it's just because I don't like her.
Re: My MIL wants to buy a trampoline for the boys.
We had one growing up... SO much fun!! And definitely a great way to wear them out. I totally get you wanting to say no... DH Mom never gets us or DS anything... But I despise her so much any suggestion makes me want to immediately turn it down.
ETA: I would take her up on this. They aren't cheap, and a great thing to have.. Let her pay for it ; )
Not without a fence in my yard. Too many liability issues. If someone gets on and gets hurt without your permission, you're still liable. They're trespassing, but you're liable. So no.
Now, if she wants to help finance the fence and put the trampoline in... then I might reconsider because it sounds like fun to me too.
I would not do it with no fenced off yard. Too much liability if say teens take over and do stupid things while you sleep. They CAN be quiet when they sneak.
That said...Sams club and Costco have a "First" Trampoline option. It is smaller, closer to the ground, and could be stowed easily in a garage or shed. I would opt that way to avoid any and all liability. They look safe, and we may get one for DD.
I say HELL NO under any circumstances. Sorry. The suckers are unsafe and no one is going to convince me that having one in one's yard is a good freaking idea. I know others feel differently but I think it's just a lawsuit waiting to happen. I could just not forgive myself if something were to happen. I don't even allow K on them at Recreations Outlet. I am that mean mom. Too bad.
And yes, check with your insurance provider - some cover them just fine, some will not cover them at all, and some others require a rider.
I know they're controversial, but I want one and if we don't end up selling the house this year we're going to get one. Charlie LOVES them.
They make net enclosures that attach at both top and bottom and zip and lock so that they're close to impossible to get inside unless you unlock it yourself.

I'm with Moesten. I've known two kids who have broken bones (clavical and leg) on trampolines. Plus, without a fenced in yard, the liability issue would weigh heavily on me. We do have a fenced in yard and I still wouldn't get one.
I am with Moe here.
As a side note my MIL and SIL put my SD and DD on one without our permission when SD was 6 months or so. SD sprained her ankle. I was HAWT!
