I know it's been asked here before, but I couldn't find the post. LO will be 6 days old tomorrow. He's been out a few times for doctors appointments (getting his bili levels checked), and then we go right back home. My mom is with me this week and suggested we go to the grocery store tomorrow. I don't want to send her by herself, but is it safe to take LO out? I'd obviously keep him covered and in his car seat. Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: How soon before I should take LO out?

This! plus it's still cold here. I'm not taking any chances. Other than the pedi's office and my in-laws, DD is staying home until then.
Our pedi is fine with almost whatever and where ever. The main thing she suggested was to keep him in a sling in really crowded places and places with strangers. People are less likely to invade his space if he is in a sling than in his seat.
We've taken him to the store countless times, a birthday party, the mall.... the list goes on. You can;t let them keep you locked up. It isn't good for anyone.
my doctor told us at addison's 2 week appointment that we should avoid crowds for a while so my boyfriend won't let me take her anywhere. so i've gone places and he's gone places but one of us is almost always at home. it's 80 degrees in houston, i want to sit out at starbucks or something and she could sit in the seat next to me and get some warmth or something. hopefully at our 1 month appointment this week when she gets more shots they'll let me take my baby out on the town.
This. We have Annalise with us living our "normal" llife. When we're out, nobody holds her but us.
I have heard a lot of different answers to this one. Our LO is healthy and the pediatrician did not give us any "rules."
A friend of mine who is a pediatric nurse said she did not take her LO's out until 8 weeks. Her reasoning was that if any infant under 8 weeks is taken to the ER for fever, they automatically have to do a spinal tap to rule out meningitis (which is awful). She figured the more she could do to prevent fever while they were so little, the better.
We have taken DS to the pediatrician at 1 week, a gift shop at 2 weeks, and his grandfather's house at 3 weeks. We probably will not be taking him to any grocery stores, church, etc. until at least 6 weeks. So far it hasn't been too hard for us because my mom is more than happy to stay with him anytime if we want to get out.
