Why not? Everyone seems bored, so let's have 2 this week!
Here's mine:
I hate it when people display flags in the United States that aren't US flags, mainly on vehicles. It would be like me displaying a German Flag because I have German in me, even though I have been a US citizen since I was born. I see this all the time where I am from. It is COMPLETELY different if you have a foreign exchange student or guest from a different nation and they are staying here for a short period of time. I also think it is trashy to have a Confederate Flag on someones truck but don't find it trashy for them to fly over a Confederate Grave Site.
Re: Unpopular Opinion Tuesday
i dont care about flags of other countries. we are a melting pot, yo. but the confederate flag plastered all over some hillbilly truck is not cool. i understand it actually means something non racial to some people but it still has that stigma and therefore people should respect that before pasting it all over the place.
What's that Chris Rock movie?
God bless America and no place else!
good story.
The reason I don't feel it wrong over a Confederate Gravesite is because that is the reason they died. It had meaning to them. If it wasn't there, it would suggest we erased it from US History. It is my opinion, I know it is unpopular, that is why I posted it.
I will state that I am not raciest. I hope my opinion does not come off this way.

I think it's Head of State.
Not trying to be snarky, but I am confused - who is an idiot and why? I am assuming that this is towards the OP, but what part of her opinion makes her an idiot? The Confederate flag or another country's flags?
ETA: clarity
Yeah, I am waiting for it.
Everyone wanted something to talk about right?

it is possible to have a confederate flag and not be a bigot/racist. i see nothing wrong with over a gravesite of a soldier. i do however want to burn down any house that has it painted on their roof. or burn down the white supremacy "civil war surplus" store that is less than 2 miles from my house, unfortunately. i dont even live in the sticks but somehow this guy has gotten away with this store for 40 years. it's repulsive.
hey we biitched, she delivered!
Mainly, on vehicles, like I said - they have them painted all over the back of their windshields, flying mini flags on their antennas, or have those plastic license plates where their real ones should go. I just find this really annoying. I know I could look the other way and usually do.

That is really neat. I don't find this tacky - if the flag is displayed properly and in a nice manner, I don't have an issue with that.
I don't think a plastic plate on a truck or car with a flag is the proper way to display a flag though.

I hate seeing American flags on cars. I think that there should be a level of respect for an American (any country I suppose) flag. It's just a piece of fabric, but it is highly symbolic. Letting it flap crazily while you drive down the interstate just doesn't seem very respectful.

My state still has the confederate flag in its state flag, so I'm kind of stuck in that regard.
Like others have said I know there are people that consider it a sign of cultural heritage and not a sign of anything race related, but my intitial gut reaction is always going to be to judge someone displaying it. More often than not, anyone proudly displaying a large confederate flag is not someone I want to be around.
eh, i see your point. but i dont mind it unless its torn or something. then you just need to replace it.
OP - I love how you keep changing your story. First you sound like a true "raciest." Then your beef is just with confederate flags. Now we end with the flags are just tacky.
Keep digging yourself into that hole. Then please stay down there.
I think I know the store you are referring to. Have not been in there myself. Had a couple neighbors move to the area and venture in there. They were appalled.
I just don't see how displaying a flag on your vehicle is appropriate. That is the the summary of my UO.

ooh, this is a good way to put it. i live in georgia so its all over the place but like you said, the people who are showing it off in obnoxious ways are the people you dont want to know.
What is a freak flag??
I see these belt buckles all the time. They are really not my style. I also have a friend that has a tattoo of a confederate flag on her arm. She believes in the flag, which I find as a bad quality in her and find it really sad that people still think things like this. My community at home is the same way, which is why I am glad Hudson is not growing up around that. He needs to know that no matter what color or nationality or religion, we do not discriminate. That is a value I will make sure he gets.

where in GA are you, if you dont mind me asking? i have only driven by that store and my friend told me it was a white supremacy store and i didn't believe her. so i looked it up online and it sure enough is. the dude is like a folk hero to the rednecks here, it's sickening. you can see some of their wares for sale online. i remember one sign they had for sale said "mexicans, blacks and dogs stay out- jk, dogs can come in." ugh. i despise that this place is in my town!
America is not a meltig pot.
But, yes you can fly whatever flag you want.
Kennesaw. The store I am talking about is in Historic Kennesaw. My neighbors said they had pictures of lynchings for sale. Disgusting.
That is horrible. I'm surprised someone hasn't tried to burn that place down.

I've noticed that alot too. I think there are alot of teachers that frequent the bump. Not all of them will openly express that they feel this way.
I feel the same way about my job. They cut this position down from a management position and are paying me half of what the old manager made.

I'm not sure I've seen this on here. I hear them talk about the ironies of the job and about other people who b**** about the summer's off. I've seen other people stand up and defend teachers, but I've just not seen the teachers themselves complaining.
As a teacher I would have to agree with you. I knew I wasn't going to make killer money, and I think that the money I do make is pretty darn good, especially considering I make more than most people in my town (I live in the sticks). Besides, I don't teach because the money is good. I teach because when I get out of bed in the morning, I don't get that sinking feeling because I have to go to something I hate for 8 hrs.
I do however believe that most of the under-appreciated feelings come from the way parents and administration reacts to the profession. Parents expect me to turn their snot-nosed brats into little geniuses in the course of a year while fighting against all the crap they learn at home. Parents and admin. are more worried about test scores than creating life-long learners. I don't care if my kids can't remember how to find the indirect and direct object at the end of the year. I care though if they started the year out as a reluctant reader, and they end the year with even a mild interest in reading.
I do commend your attempt to make the board interesting though!
eh. As a teacher I don't think I was (SAHM now) underpaid. Well there were days when I had to help a 15 year old clean herself up after a poop accident (I was a special educator) that I thought I was underpaid. hehe. But all in all, I worked 10 months out of the year with lots and lots of days off!
Before I was a teacher I thought it was ridiculous when teachers would say, "I can't wait for spring break. I need a vacation!" But since becoming a teacher, I get it. It's an exhausting job where those breaks are needed. With that said, I think Holland has a great system. Many countries in Europe really; they get a month "holiday" every year! And Spain has siesta every afternoon! Wouldn't that be nice?! hehe
I know most people don't really think about the phrase "melting pot" since it has been ingrained in us by this point. It's just a pet peeve of mine and a very minor point in the progression of this thread.
