Trying to Get Pregnant

Defective OPK?

I have had really good luck with internet cheapie OPK's.  I usually get about 3 +OPK's during my O, and faint OPK's for a few days leading up.  All my bodily symptoms align to this (mild cramps, CM, etc) and it all happens around CD15.

This past month I ordered new cheapies and they looked a little different.  Same basic function though so I didn't wory about it.  I noticed in the days leading up to O that the control line was really light.  And through this weekend I am positive I O'd.  All the symtoms were there - now I just have to watch my temp (hopefully) rise.  However I never got a +OPK!  We were BD'ing anyway, but it added a lot of stress to my weekend.  I spent 2 days worrying about why I wasn't getting a + when my body and the calendar were telling me otherwise.  It didn't occur to me that the tests might be defective until last night - when it  was really too late to buy new tests.

Like I really need the added stress of dysfuntional tests when I'm already stressed about ttc!

I'm posting this for 2 reasons.  One is to see if this has happened to anyone else.  Not enough dye in them maybe?  And also to encourage anyone else running into the same problem to trust their gut instinct and just buy new (unfortunately more expensive) tests.

Thoughts or anecdotes anyone?

Re: Defective OPK?

  • Were they a different brand? I am only sticking with the wondfo IC...because I like them and they are easy to read for me.

I have only used them for a month though, so I am really not much help. When TTC my last DD, we used the ones at walmart and they worked well too.

  • My only experience with an invalid test had no line at all, not even a test line.  Just stark white.

  • They were Wondfo, which is what I've always gotten.  It seems like it was just a different lot - the blue part of the strip looked slightly different.  Every test (and I seriously took like 20 of them) had an incredibly pale pink control line.

  • I just bought the CBE digital and both times i received an error message. So it really doesnt matter where you purchase them or how much you spend...it can happen. I wonder if i can return them ?

  • LMAO - I LOVE the idea of returning peed-on tests!  I know that's probably not what you meant Honey, but the picture in my head was awesome.

Going through my trash and pulling out an armful of used tests.  Dumping said  tests on pharmacy counter.  "I'm sorry...these didn't work"
