My son is, and has always been, a major snacker. He will have a six ounce bottle twice a day (first thing in the morning and right after his morning nap) and the rest of the day, it's maybe three ouces at a time, and he really only wants to eat when he is falling asleep. The hardest thing is trying to get him to eat his bottle before he goes to bed. He fights tooth and nail against eating more than 2-3 ounces, but then wants to have his bottle with him he he lays down. (He usually holds his own bottles now) I know you can't MAKE a baby eat, but dear sweet god, if he would just eat a little more before he goes to sleep I think he would sleep at least a little longer at night.
So.... any suggestions? Anyone have similar experiece? Offers of condolence on my never ending lack of sleep and middle of the night feedings?
Re: Anyone else have a little one who is a snacker?
Does he eat solids?
DS eats solids at 6pm and bottle at 7pm and bed at 8pm. Sleeps until 5-6am getting up just for pacifier. My DS loves solids and it makes him really sleepy, but he fights sleep badly. That's why we have some time between eating and bottle.
When DS got up in the middle of the night I would give him his pacifier and see if he would sleep longer. If he went less then a half hour then I would feed and change him and put him back to bed. If he went longer then 1/2 hour and got up again... pacifier again until less then 1/2 hour. Now he eats a lot in the morning. 6oz bottle at 6am, 8am, and solid at 9am.
