experience with care.com or sittercity.com?

Wondering if anyone has experience with either of these or knows if they are supposed to have a good reputation, or if one is better than the other.  I'm trying to find a source for back-up / on-call child care.  Thanks!

Re: experience with care.com or sittercity.com?

  • No experience hiring anyone from either site but, I have been a registered provider on both sites. From the families I have worked for, they have nothing but praise from the site and people they have found from both sites. I can tell you that the screening process is fairly thorough with what they require of the applicants.

I would highly recommend these sites as a way to find an abundant amount (depending on where you live) qualified applicants.

I do not know what they charge though to sign up and have access to providers.

  • I actually found a sitter using care.com. It was very easy to use, and I had immediate acces to her (and others') background checks. What also helped were the recommendations. What I did not like about the service was that once I had found my sitter, I no longer wanted to pay $30 each month, so I canceled my subscription. Or so I thought. I still receive weekly emails about sitters in my area-something I just don't need at this time. Hope this helps.

You can choose not to receive those emails anymore. When I cancelled my membership, I remember them asking if I wanted to receive them or not. I'm sure if you just go into your account/profile, you can change that.

OP, I also used care.com and found our nanny. It was a great site and there were lots of applicants and qualified people there.

  • I used sittercity to find both our nannies (the first one quit after a couple of months due to unforeseen circumstances). We love(d) both and I was very happy with the qualified applications I got for the job. I have a one-time sitter job up right now and hope that sittercity will also help with that. Good luck.

  • We really like sittercity.com

  • We found our in home daycare provider on Sittercity.  We also interviewed a few nannies from there.  I really liked it and would recommend it.  I never used care.com so I cannot compare for you.

  • Check out Care4hire.com.  It is a great resource for finding babysitters!  Easy to use database and a free search of babysitters before you register.  Great Resource!
