Northern California Babies

how much do you spend on bday gifts?

my son is the youngest out of all my friends babies. for each of their bday gifts, i typically spend between 35-40.

after having his 1st bday i realized most people spent around 15-20 (and i only noticed this because he recieved duplicates and i had to return stuff to bru/target), but i am just wondering if maybe i spend a little too much and should scale back? is 20 about average for a gift?

Re: how much do you spend on bday gifts?

  • I have so many to buy for throughout the year that I usually try to spend between $10-$15

  • I typically spend between $15 and $25 --- it really depends on what I find and what I like.  I guess maybe I'm cheap?  I even keep it to that for my nieces. :(

Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.

  • I usually shoot for $20-30, depending on how well we know the parents. If we don't hang out with the parents or kid a lot, then I will do less.
  • thanks girls! this helps - sounds like 20 is average and i am going to stick to that for bday gifts moving forward!
  • About $20. I usually try to put more thought than money into birthday gifts (so that the child doesn't get 3 of the same thing.)
    Mama to Z - 5.5 years, G - 3.5 years, & M - 1.5 years.
  • i shoot for the $15-25 range...and i know that this is nitpicky, but man, after the card, the gift bag and everything else, it ends up being a whole lot more.

Also, it depends on who it's for...i knew that our security guard at our office building was getting ready for his daughter's first birthday...they've been trying for years and after they stopped trying (age 43), the wifey got prego!  so I got them something a bit more...
