Re: What is your profession?

  • I'm a registered nurse.  Currently training in OB at a rural hospital--I work with labor and delivery, postpartum moms, and newborns!

  • I work in Human Resources. I love it, but I wish I could find a job where I could work from home!

Me too.  I'm quitting my job in September and then early next year I'm going to start looking for work-from-home positions.  Hoping to find something in research.

it's not as good as it sounds.  i mean, i do it because there isn't much in my area that would make it worth the cost of daycare for 2 kids and it gives us extra money, but 90% of the time, I'm dying to find a job in an office.

  • Nice mix of things...and it seems like there are at least 2 people who do each profession so someone can always relate.

I'm usually a surgery resident, but this year and next I am doing clinical research. Better hours but way less interesting.

  • I'm an attorney, I practice civil litigation and  my practice is mostly individual rights cases.  I'm hoping to transition from practical to academic in the next 3-5 years and work as a professor at a college/university.
  • I'm the Assistant Director at the Student Union at UNC-Chapel Hill (go heels! they have a game tonight and everyone is in full basketball fever around here).  I help students coordinate and plan events on campus - concerts, comedy acts, gingerbread house decorating, pumpkin carving, you name it.  I'm supposed to be teaching them a thing or two about leadership and life skills too, i suppose.

  • I'm a Project Director at a Marketing Research Company.

  • I was in Strategic Purchasing (outsourcing) for a manufacturing company. I quit & now work in a daycare with 1 & 2-yr-olds. Now when I say "Please don't step on your friends!", it's literal instead of figurative :)

  • I'm a biomedical engineer and have a field position supporting implants and working with patients that have pacemakers and defibrillators.  When I'm not at the hospital I work from home - but I can get called out any time so I'll still be doing daycare.  I have mixed feelings about being home while LO is in daycare, but unless I can afford a nanny I don't think I can work around it :/

  • I work for a private aviation company (not NetJets) in the accounting department. I'm also preparing for the CPA exam, though I'm not positive what I want to do with that certification yet. Probably get a job with an accounting firm doing audits and taxes.
  • I'm an Electrical Engineer with specialties in Microelectronics (mostly simiconductor physics) and Electromagnetics. Sometimes I can dweeb out pretty good! LOL! I work on 'special projects' and satellite systems. I love the company I work for! I won't leave here until I retire.

  • I am licensed vocational nurse (aka licensed practical nurse in most states).  I've worked in all different settings in my career.  I've been working in an acute rehabilitation hospital for the past 2 years.  I love seeing people come in broken and leave a whole person again.  While it's not the most fun job all the time, I wouldn't give it up.  The flexibility and the fact I can get a job anywhere makes it awesome.  I want to finally get my RN.  It's just one more year of school, I know I can do it.
  • I am a financial advisor - specializing in public finance.

  • I'm a financial administrator at a nationally known hospital.  The commute is a killer and not really sustainable for me once the LO is born, so I'm planning to take about a year off to be a mom and accomplish some personal goals (i.e. finish my MBA, finally learn to golf, lose some weight, etc.).

  • I'm Operations Manager/Book-keeper for a small packaging supplies distributor/broker.   Basically I work side by side with the owner and I am in charge of Everything internal, since he hates doing any of that stuff... purchasing, billing, accounting, customer/vendor issues, paperwork, etc etc etc..... It's a job I have done from home and also in an office, now that we've finally decided to get our own warehouse space.  I much prefer to work from the office....worked from home for a year and half, and it just seemed a little more chaotic to me.  I like being able to leave the office and walk away from it everyday, locking the door behind me

Course when the baby comes, I will be returning to working from home.  It has its pluses too, don't get me wrong, but I will miss the office..

Additionally, I am also a part time student....slowly but surely trying to finish a BA in Accounting. I already have my AA in Business Admin.
