What is your profession?

You know...we talk about a lot of things on here.  Today was the first time I saw mention of professions, like NatKay being in accounting and Pina being a teacher.  Just wondering what everyone's profession is.  Please share whether you work outside the home, you're a SAHM, or something in between!

I'm the Finance Director of a local government agency.  I never really thought accounting would be my "thing" but I enjoy what I do and it allows me the flexibility to go to my OB appointments without any problem.

  • I was an attorney for a private equity firm but am now a SAHM. I have also done some recruiting in the past and worked on the trading floor, screaming in the trading pits, for 7 years. I've worn a few hats:)

  • I'm in admin for an accounting firm and hoping to return to school for the spring semester.

P.S. I can't wait for tax season to be over!!!

  • I am a Headline Editor for a financial news company you have probably heard of. I essentially read really really fast, and write the news in headline form so traders and other clients can make fast decisions on whether to buy/sell/what not based on our headlines.... much quicker for them than having to read through an entire press release.

I never ever ever thought I'd work in financial news. I don't even LIKE financial news, but I enjoy the nature of my job.

I also teach aerobics on the weekends. Not now, but I did and will again!

  • I'm a computer systems administrator/engineer for an energy company and I love it. I don't think I have what it takes to be a stay at home mom, even though it would be nice to not have to work. The only thing is, there is not a damn thing on tv during the week. LOL.

  • I'm a CPA.  If you're wondering how I have time to play on the interwebz, I mostly do business returns and most of them were due 3/15 or aren't due until the fall.  Plus we have a ton of clients who haven't brought us their stuff yet so we have these lulls where there is nothing to do because we're all caught up.  It's very strange.  Guess I'll be paying for it on April 14-18.
  • I am an executive assistant for a guy who sells Bank Owned Life Insurance to Large banks around the country.  Since Oct our company has tripled in size and so I have also taken over the roll of Human Resources and Licensing Department!
  • I'm an epidemiologist  working in public health research.
  • I'm a substitute teacher until I can get a full time job.  I'm certified in Family & Consumer Sciences (Home Ec.).   Eventually DH and I will be caterers.  I make cakes (mostly wedding) in the summers.
  • I am a SAHM but prior to my babies I was a marketing executive and it still allows me to work from home from time to time.

  • Like the op said, I am an English teacher for grades 7-12.  I started my first year in the city and then taught for 5 years on the island in low income schools before my job was cut. I also have my administration degree but don't plan on using it just yet.  So for now I am subbing, which sucks.  Long Island is not the place to be for teachers right now, nor is NYC for that matter.

  • I'm an attorney, although I've decided it's not my "dream job".  Once DH starts making more (also an attorney) I have dreams of going back to school for an interior design degree.

  • I'm a registered nurse at a local hospital. I really enjoy what I do. I will miss everyone I work with while I'm out on maternity leave but I am excited to be home, enjoying our new family member. I don't think I could be a SAHM. I mean, I would love to be available ALL the time. But I do love working and I love my job. Who knows how I'll feel though after the little one comes Smile

  • Wow, we are a well-educated bunch. I am a teacher in the NYC school system. However, I leaving at the end of this year (teacher burnout in NYC is ridiculouly high) and think I may go back into the publishing field (which I worked in during my 20s).

  • Sales Scheduler for govement orders. I basially run around all day hoping we have parts to fill large orders, and checking e-mails from customers screaming at me.

  • Elementary Art Teacher. I see about 800 students a week at 3 different schools. I LOVE it, but I have over an hour's commute, and I am REALLY hoping I can be a SAHM next year. I'm looking into getting my master's in Educational Technology (it's an online program)... but I'm not sure if I'm going to try to stay a SAHM until my kids are older/in school, or what.

Sometimes it's stressful trying to decide what to do... especially when it really depends on what happens (economy, our own finances, when we get pg again, etc).

I am the squad leader to a squad of 8 medical staff, and I am responsible for training them for our deployment to Afghanistan in May of 2012. When we get over there things will get really interesting.

In addition, I have a Bachelors degree in Forensic Anthropology, which I can't do anything with.

  • Book keeper for USDA and coach volleyball. Not a fan of my book keeping job other than the paycheck and I have a pretty good boss. My degree is in Elem. Ed., but its nearly impossible to get a job around here unless you sub for a long time. Maybe once the kid(s) are in school I'll look into teaching again.
