Moms of 2 or more - if you had a glider in your nursery...

and then updated to a big girl/boy room, what did you do with the space where the glider was?

I'm thinking ahead to if we have another baby. Nora's room currently has a glider and ottoman that occupy a pretty big corner space. If we have another, I'd like to move the glider from her room to the new nursery. What could I put in that corner? Some sort of more grown-up seating where we can still read stories together?

Any suggestions?

Here's the room - there's usually an ottoman in front of the glider.

  • Toy chest?

However, depending on how old she is when you get pg again you may want a glider in each bedroom. We were lucky to have two when both children came to us. Even if you don't rock to sleep, we still rock to calm down for bed. :-)

  • I obviously havent done this yet but if I were you I would put something to make that a little reading corner/relaxing corner. Maybe one of those PBK anywhere chairs and some pillows or even a bean bag and put some bins of books, maybe a dolly bed next to it...just some ideas :-)

  • maybe a little kid table and chairs... like the cute ones you can get at ikea.

  • I would put a bean bag, or her own chair there, along with a shelf for books or toys or something like that.  We had exactly that issue when I got pregnant with Tyler, so we moved the glider out of Justin's room.  He has his own "kid" chair from Ikea, and we also got him a larger bookshelf from there and put his (crapload) of books on it along with some of his stuffed animals.  Now he also has his child sized table and chairs in there.

  • We went through this exact situation. I remember being so worried Jack would careabout the glider and be upset if it was for Sawyer since we used it so often.

We bought him this, and seriously love it. The boys play on it every single day and have napped on it several times. I like it much better than the PBK anywhere chair.

I also think PP had some great suggestions.

Our glider/ottoman is in the 2nd floor loft, so our situation doesn't really apply; however, I do love your idea of creating a more grown-up cuddle/reading nook.

  • We still have our rocker in the girls' room (that the older two share).  Charlotte is still nursing and that is where she nurses before bed, but even still, we use it all the time outside of that for reading, etc.  I sit in there with them sometimes when they're falling asleep too.  However, you could do a little table and chairs set, or a bean bag or kiddie chair of some kind.  I've thought about getting the Minnen table & chairs from IKEA... so cute... but they just don't have the space in their room right now, maybe once we do actually move the glider, which probably won't be until the next time we redo their room (when they are both in big girl beds).

  • Our house is doesn't have a lot of play space, so I recently put a 9 cube toy storage unit there (target).  I like it because the toys are in drawers, so they're not all out and distracting.  I do like the idea of a reading corner though.
