Help! I need an 'i'm not drinking' excuse!

My drinking buddy at work asked me for a quick drink..she's having a rough day and needs to chat. I told her i'm on antibiotics for a stomach issue and can't drink.

Was that a bad excuse? Anyone know how I can expand on that so it doesn't look like i'm making something up?

LOL, i've never passed on a drink until now. Granted, I have a great reason, but i'm not good at saying no to a drink!!

TIA!

  • Haha- this sounds so familiar! I'm usually the one suggesting the happy hours.

I'm in the same boat... the antibiotics thing worked like a charm, but only ONCE.... no one can stay on antibiotics for 12 weeks. Now I just have to pretend that I'm lame.

Also- club soda & lime looks just like a gin and tonic to unsuspecting partygoers.

  • I told someone that I had a bad headache and took presc pain killers earlier and everyone believed me
  • I'd say, go with the KISS method- that is, keep it simple stupid.  (not that you're stupid, I don't even know you, that's just the name of this method)

DON'T try to elaborate on a lie...you're only going to make the story look more convoluted and made up.  Just stick with what you said and drop it!

  • I really think that "stomach issues" are one of the better not drinking excuses. Because really, when you say that, who asks for more details?
  • You wouldn't expand on it normally would you? I'd just let it be. If she accepted it at face value then don't expand on the lie. You'll just end up screwing it up. :)

  • Stomach issue sounds like a good excuse. Most people don't want more info than that!!

If it comes up again just say it hasn't cleared up and your doctor advised you against alcohol!

  • I have to attend a family gathering this weekend and I was going to use the antibiotic story..lol..They're are used to me having a few glasses a wine (and I'm used to having to drink them in order to deal with those people oh my inlaws that is....)
  • your on antibiotics, or not feeling well.
  • Thanks ladies! Good point! I'll definitely use the KISS method. No one needs to know about the dark side of 'stomach issues'
