So, my mom is doing some work on her home and asked what I wanted to do with all the old VHS tapes from my childhood. My first reaction was, I want them, LO can watch them. After I thought about it, I realized we don't even own a VCR so there would be no point. Here are a few examples of the tapes:
Rainbow Brite
The Lion King
Beauty and the Beast
Fox and the Hound
The Little Mermaid
I'm sure there are others, but those stand out to me. The Lion King is my absolute favorite and I have that on DVD, so that can def go.
This probably a silly post, but I need opinions please. ![]()
Re: Clicky: Should I keep my old children's vhs tapes?
You don't have a VCR anymore. What are you going to do with them? We have gotten used to the picture on DVD's and bluerays. When I do watch a vcr tape I can't believe how grainy the picture is.
Lion King is my fav too. They don't have it available on DVD right now.
I'll have to look into that...thanks!
Look at the box and tell LO the story
. I wonder if getting them transferred to DVD will enhance the picture at all. I was thinking about how the picture would look as well...I try to only watch things in HD, I don't even look at the regular def channels. *sigh* decisions decisions.
I was thinking about this as well.
I would say to see if you can sell them on Craigslist and if not, then donate them. You can buy the movies you like on dvd and then you'll be able to watch them again.
We have VHS, w went and bought a new VCR not that long ago just so that we could pay them, then about six months ago we went to GoodWill and bought some more Disney movies on VHS,they were like 99 cents, compared to buying DVDs for $5-$25.. We have a lot of DVDs too, but I figured DD doesn't really care about picture quality and I don't really either so we have them, and we will keep them until we can afford to replace them with DVDs. We probably have 40 or so VHS Disney movies. Also one cool thing about VHSs that I like is DD knows basically how to put them in the VCR and she isn't going to really hurt them. When I was 2 or so my mom said that I knew how to work our VCR and it was a top loader that had a brick on top to keep it closed and I knew how to put in my favorite movie and watch it: Cinderella!
I'll ask our dcp about this. She uses Netflicks, but I wonder if she has a vcr.
Why on earth would you keep them??? That doesn't make sense at all.
Tapes degrade over time. There is absolutely no long-term value to these tapes, they won't be playable at all before long.
As for paying to transfer them to DVD, that doesn't make sense either. Just buy the DVD. The quality of tape transferred to DVD is going to be terrible.
Well, that's why I am asking for opinions. My heart says to keep them because I loved them as a child, sentimental value, blah blah blah. The reality is, it could cost more to keep them since we'd have to buy a vcr (although cheap). I'm leaning towards maybe donating them, but I'm just not sure at this time.
My DH would never let me keep them. Just because of the quality. I can't really imagine how bad the image is. We are so in love with the bluerays. Why go back to old stuff?
Specially if you are used to HD, I think the sentimental value might be in the actual movie and not in the VHS tape.
Sell them or donate them.
GL!
Good point...thanks!
We picked up a VCR at a garage sale for 3$. I have been replacing the VCR tapes as I can.
Edited to add a word.
