Trying to Get Pregnant

Can you get mono twice? (NTTGPR)

I had mono last spring (early Feb-April-ish).  A good friend of mine just found out that she has mono.  We started talking about how I had it last year around this time, and she said she hopes I never got it again.  I didn't think you could have it twice, but she said she thought you could.  Just curious... does anyone know?  And no I'm not worried about "catching it" from her lol  It just came up and now I'm curious.  TIA

  • My sister has had it twice. I think mono never leaves your system completely so it can ''flare'' up again later in life. It wasn't nearly as bad the 2nd time around. HTH!

  • It IS possible to get it more than once, but it's very rare.

This.  A lady my mom works with has a daughter who just suffered from her 3rd round of it.

  • I got mono twice in highschool. Technically if you get it twice it means you never fully recovered the first time. So yes you can get it twice.

  • Last year my sister had a severe case of mono, it literally almost took her life (which is super rare btw). My family and I pretty much moved into the hospital with her and the nurses were pretty adamant about us all wearing masks because you can get it more than once. Just try to keep your distance, wash your hands, etc and you should be ok. Mono is no fun. I hope your friend feels better soon.

  • When you get mono it is because you have the epstein barr virus. The virus stays in your system your whole life, so you could develop mono symptoms again. You can get over mono, but the virus never goes away.

  • I had mono in college and for two years after I would start feeling sick and have some of the same symptoms right around the time of year that I originally had mono. I even went back and took another mono test but it came back negative. It seemed strange but I heard that it's common.

  • I had mono right after my 18th birthday. It was horrible - my glands were so swollen that the distinction between my face and neck nearly disappeared. I couldn't swallow without agonizing pain, so I wasn't eating, and drank maybe a half a can of Ensure a day just so that I didn't completely drop. When I spoke, you would've thought that I had been deaf. It was awful, and lasted about 2 weeks before the doctors finally prescribed me some steroids, which brought the swelling down a fair amount to where I could actually swallow again.

I am pretty sure that mono can flare up again if it wasn't completely treated the first time around. Every few months until I was about 20 I would start feeling the same symptoms that I had with mono, although less intense, and would freak out that I was getting it again. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy!

This.  I had it in college, bad, and got over it after about a month.  Fast forward 8 years later, and I'm tired, sore all over, and just don't feel right.  My doctor did several blood panels, and it turned out my mono had flared back up.  She said its not very common, but it can happen.

  • I had it twice. The second time was right before prom-- I did lose like 10 pounds, which was nice. It has been 10 years since the last time I have had it, but sometimes I think it might be coming back when I get really worn down.

    I make cute babies.
