Postpartum Depression

Do I have Postpartum Depression?

I am fine with him during the day but towards the evening I dont want anything to do with him. Dont get me wrong I love my DS with all my heart but when he cries it annoys me and frustrates me. Sometimes my DH wants me to watch my son so that he can cook or walk the dog and I dont want to. My husband is military so he has to get up extra early in the morning so when my DS wakes up its up to me to change him, feed him and put him back to sleep and I find my self pissed that he woke up and I exhausted. Do I have postpartum depression and Should I see a doctor? What to do?

Re: Do I have Postpartum Depression?

  • I would say yes that you have some PPD. Night time's are rough especially in the the first few months. I get a lot of anxiety in the evenings and night time. Sometimes I go into panic mode because when he wakes I start to doubt myself as a mom. Hang in there! I know that you said your husband has to wake early but if you could talk with him about maybe helping with the changing part at least once during the night, that would be really helpful. My husband has done this for me and sometimes taken him out of the room so I could get some rest. It does help. If you are really bothered by how you feel then I would go see a dr about it. A therapist really can help you make sense of what you are feeling. You're not a bad mom for feeling this way. Many moms go through it! Over time it does get better!

  • I have PPD and now take meds and I feel like myself again.(I absolutely did not want to take meds and tried to convince myself that I was OK.). I would feel exactly like you about being frustrated that my baby woke up and exhausted. Meds help you rationalize everything, not be so frustrated and overwhelmed. Therapy goes with it too, it helps you fix the cause of the PPD. Evenings and nights are harder because everything seem worse. Your mind is tired and doesnt focus and think right. You should go see PPD websites for the symptoms and see if you can relate to them. Dont wait until it gets worse if you feel it is not getting better. The faster you do something about it, the faster you will feel better.
