when do you shower?

DS is 9 weeks now but I'm still having trouble finding time to take a shower every day. Most of the time I end up waiting for DH to get home from work, and by that time I almost feel like "what's the point?" Does anyone have any tricks you could share?

  • After H gets home - usually after dinner.

  • Molly showers with me, but I only shower when H comes home.  I shower myself, then he brings her to me and I wash her, hand her back to him and finish up.

  • If I can get DH to take him, around dinner time. Most days it's after I put DS to bed, though.

  • Buckle the baby into the boucey seat and bring him into the bathroom.   It'll give you an excuse to sing in the shower :)

Getting a shower helps make the day seem sort of "normal."

  • In the beginning I did the same thing-- waited for hubby to get home from work so that I could shower.  I'm used to nighttime showers though-- I work @ a hospital and always shower when I get home.

Lately, if I haven't gotten one yet ( between feedings, cleaning, making dinner, and walking dogs!), I get the baby ready for bed first ( bath/feed then bed), and put him in the bassinet, close the door so the dogs don't get in, and get in the shower.

Pretty soon I think if hes awake we're just going to sit the bouncy seat in the bathroom and he can listen to some tunes while i shower.

    Its not easy though... :/

  • Usually after DD goes down for the night and right before I go to bed.
I give up trying to get a ticker.  I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome.  Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself.  Hmmm.  How about...

  • I either shower while DS is napping or right after i feed him his second bottle of the day. As long as he is full he will play on his mat or bouncy chair while i shower.
  • I shower whenever I want, though usually after a feeding.

I either put him in his crib watching his mobile, which he loves. Or in a seat in the bathroom. Every once in a while, he'll get crabby, but it's only a couple of minutes and he's fine.  DD will usually play in her room or watch tv while I shower.

  • No tricks, I shower after DH gets home and DD has recently eaten.  I am a night showerer for now!

  • thanks ladies! I know i could always do it at night after DS is asleep but I hate going to bed with wet hair, and I sweat at night and feel like I need another shower in the morning anyway. I'm so high maintenance. Stick out tongue

  • mid morning. usually just after she eats and then falls asleep I put her in the swing and head straight up stairs to shower. On Fridays DS is home with me so I bring him in the shower with me.

  • when I just had one baby I would take the bouncy chair in the bathroom and get a nice long bath while he napped in the bounncy. haha. Man I miss those days.

Now that I have two kids...HA. Usually when dh gets home from work I'll shower, or I shower at night before bed.

I don't really leave the house most days anyway so it's cool if I'm a dirtbag Wink

  • I've always been an evening shower gal so I still take one at night when DH watches her.

  • I make sure he's fed and changed and happy and put him in a bouncy seat in the bathroom. I don't know if it's the sound of the running water or what, be he usually falls asleep. Worst case he starts crying and I need to finish quickly. When DS#1 outgrew the bouncy seat I would just put him on the floor with some toys. That worked up until he learned to open doors, some time between 18 mo and 2.

  • DS takes a nice, long morning nap, so as soon as I put him down and know that he's asleep I jump in the shower.  On mornings when he's awake and we have somewhere to be...he's in the bouncy in the bathroom with me.  Between the water running and having the fan on...he's asleep before I'm done.

  • after dinner, at night after my other 2 kids are bathed, and my hubby is home to listen out for LO. sometimes i wish i can do it whenever!

  • I have been known to take showers at 2am just becuase I will not have any interuptions.

  • I fill up the tub every night and take DS in with me. Then when he's had enough, DH takes him and I either soak for a while or quickly wash and get out. This is gross but about once a week I take a shower and wash my hair. Other than that, I'm filthy lol

If you have a bouncy seat, you could always take that into the bathroom with you and put baby in that while you shower quickly. I have found that DS is more likely to sit contently if the exhaust fan is going (white noise).

  • My husband is up at 530 for work. After he showers, I jump in real quick and he will watch her. I work at a hospital, so on the days I work, I shower after my 12 hour shift, as DH is home by then.

  • We shower whenever.  I typically put a blanket in the sink and lay DD in it, It works like a hamock and will keep her cozy safe while I shower, then I strip her down and bring her in to wash her too... She LOVES the shower and will cuddle on me wide awake looking around.  We try to shower right before she is due to eat and then nap so she will nap well.  I have some Disney CD's that I play for her while she lays in the sink and she is typically very content to do this.
  • At night, before bed.

  • I usually shower while DS is napping in his swing. Sometimes this happens as early as 9 or 10 am, sometimes it isn't until 2 pm. Nooo idea how I'm going to get one when I go back to work next week.

  • I usually shower when DD is napping or I take her into the bathroom with me in either her bouncer or RnP.  I feel soooo much better after a shower that I try to get it done in the morning.  I usually put DD in the hallway while I dry my hair.  Today she fell asleep while I dried.

  • In the morning, after DS's first feeding, I put him in the pack and play and roll it into our bathroom and he is perfectly content to stay in it and look at his mobile until I'm done. I'm honestly baffled it was that easy.

This, unless I get up and go on the treadmill after DD's 6/7am feeding. (She goes back to sleep) In that case, I can get in a shower after working out and before she gets up for the day.  Even if I just shower and don't dry my hair or do the make up routine, at least I feel like it's a normal day.

  • If Melanie is feeling pretty chipper, I can usually bring her swing in the bathroom and grab a quick shower before she gets too impatient.

  • I usually eat breakfast and nap during Ellie's first nap of the day ( between 8 and 10 am) and then during her second nap of the day between 11am and 1pm I shower and eat lunch.  She sleeps for 1.5 -2 hours so that is plenty of time for me to get things done.  I just turn the monitor on and bring it into the washroom with me so I can hear her.  Once or twice I've had to jump out of the shower because she started to get fussy but most of the time I enjoy the peace and quiet and have a long hot shower... it feels great and keeps me engergized for the rest of the day!
