low progesterone -what would you do?

We are in our first medicated cycle and my 7dpo p4 came back at a 7. (Clomid/Ovidrel). She said she would give me supps in case then if we got a neg hpt after the weekend to stop, but she also said not taking them wouldn't necessarily harm anything if we were pregnant, and we could wait and see what happens over the weekend. I don't really want to take the supps and delay AF if she is going to rear her ugly head.  Anyone have experience with this?

(next time she says she will start supps right after O).

While I am disappointed that it looks like this cycle is a bust, I'm most upset because before I had the girls I wasn't doing ANYTHING on my own - it took 150mg of clomid just to get me to O and I wasn't getting AF or anything on my own. After the girls I have had periods on my own and getting pos OPKs so I thought my body had righted itself, but now it appears I am still having issues. I just thought maybe I wouldn't have to do all this again. Sorry to vent - just don't know who else to tell that would understand. All my friends either got bfps on their own naturally or haven't had any bfps yet and just don't understand. Plus our insurance dropped any infertility coverage as of 1/1 so this is all OOP now.  Grrrr. Thanks for listening. Any thoughts/advice is always welcome by anyone.

  • If they suggested supps I personally would take them because I would always wonder 'what if?' if I didn't try them... AF shouldn't be too delayed either by them.

good luck with your decision...and with your results!

  • I would take the progesterone.  If your levels are ow, the additional progesterone could be just what you need to get your BFP.

That's so hard, to think you're body is improving, only to find out that's not the case.  I've been there.  Its just disheartening.  I'm not sure what I would do.  I tend to err on the side of "fewer" meds the better.  I also wouldn't want to delay AF - but t sounds like you'd only be taking it for about 7 days, between now and when you'd expect AF, so if I read correctly, not much of a delay.  I'm sorry I'm no help - I hate these kinds of decisions.  Wouldnt it be great to just know "do this, get pregnant!"?  GL with your decision - hang in there!

P.S. Are your girls a result of the 150mg Clomid?

  • I have been doing the supositories each month and they aren't too bad.  Some people still get AF even when they are on the gel.  It does delay AF for me and I don't end up getting it until 3 or 4 days after I stop using the gel.  My advice would be to go ahead and use the progesterone if the doctor thinks you need it.  This will make it more likely that if you get pregnant this cycle it will stick.  I am kind of hypocritical right now because I am testing my LP this cycle by not using the gel to see if my luteal phase went back up to 11 days like it used to be.  But, you have actual bloodwork evidence showing that your levels are low and I do not have any bloodwork yet.  Obviously it is your decision, but you never know if this cycle could be "the one"!  I hope this is it for you and the progesterone gel gives you that extra boost that you need!

  • Thanks ladies, I appreciate all of your thoughts.

Yes, my girls were from the 150 Clomid. I had a m/c my first round of 50, then we did 50 twice more, then 100, all with no O. The first time on 150 I O'd and it was blessedly a success!
