We are finishing up our new home and DH really wants the boys to share a room (we have built enough rooms for each to have their own but he thinks it would be good for them... I open to trying but will split them if it doesn't go well).
Would you keep the theme all the same: pirates. If we do the same theme would you do the exact same bedding? Or would you do two coordinating themes: like nautical and airplanes.
I'm so not a decorator but we recently closed a model home and I took home a beautifully staged baby girls room for Rachel. I would feel bad if the boys room didn't look decent.
Here are some of the options I'm considering (if you have great ideas I'm all ears... I need to pick out final paint colors by Wednesday). If you have paint color ideas also I'm very open for those suggestions as well.

Re: Boy's room bedding/paint advice needed...
I like the idea of coordinating - but not identical - bedding. The nautical/airplane ones would go together well. Personally, I think the pirate theme might get old quickly (then again, I don't have a boy! I'm sure all of the pink in our house would get old to a boy mama!)
I am no good with paint colors. I'd probably do something safe like a khaki/tan with maybe an accent wall - blue? dark red?
We have coordinating but not identical as Bright suggested. The twins have always shared a room (and will until they ask to be separated). When they were little they had the same gingham bedding but in different colors. Now that they are older they are still using the quilt from their gingham ensemble but one has Superman sheets and pillow cases and the other has Batman - both from Pottery Barn.
Personally I like to keep the quilt/duvet/whatever pretty neutral so I can switch out the sheets if the boys change their minds. That way the room will always look pulled together too rather than one having a Diego bedspread and the other having martians for example.
Does that make sense?
My twins are 5! My baby is 3!

I like coordinating as well. However, I am not into "themes" at all.
If it were me, I would do coordinating ginghams/plaids, etc.
PBK has a cute set with stars on it and it comes in 3 different colors for boys.
I am a lot more "plain" for boy stuff......I like stripes, polka dots, etc. Land of Nod and Company Kids have some cute non-themey sets that you might want to look at!
GL!
If it were me (and this is coming from a mom with no boys and not a decorator) I think I would do matching comforters & shams for both beds....either a solid blue, patchwork or stripes. Then do the sheets as the theme. I like things to match but I would want each kid to have something that interest them on their bed. You could add themed pillows too.
So if the one wanted pirates, I would try to find a blue pirate sheet set and do the other one with a sailboat/shark/whale theme sheet set. Then decorate the room with items that relate to both...like oars, anchors, flags, steering wheel, etc. I would stick with reds, blues, and browns.
I found these items that kinda go with what I'm thinking...
