JenL, prepare to be mad

Remember the picture of the pit bull with the baby in the crate?  My idiot friend took the dog to a pound after 2 weeks b/c he "was gonna get expensive" since he had to be dewormed, someone told her he might have hip trouble as he aged, and he got a cough.  He also ate 3 remotes, a game controller, and her cell phone.  I am so ticked at her for ever even adopting that dog in the first place.  I knew she'd never keep him, but her husband just HAD to have the pit bull (which he called a bull mastiff, which that dog was not -- they are so stupid!).

Oh, and she adopted him from a rescue group with a no-kill policy but returned him to a regular pound.  I swear, if I lived closer to her I'd have taken the dog b/c I'm sure he'll get put down.  Sorry -- that turned into a rant.  But I knew you'd be outraged with me about it, and our other friends aren't b/c they're all saying "oh, with the baby, they couldn't deal with a difficult dog," and crap like that.  Maybe they should have thought about that in the first place!!!  OK - vent over.

  • People suck :( Poor puppy. Bull Mastif?? WTF?  There is a HUGE difference and I mean that literally!

  • That really really really sucks.  I get irritated at people who do that and pit bulls of course have a soft place in my heart.  They have it so rough to begin with from the stereotypes.  Couldn't they have taken it back to the rescue group they adopted him from?  Most groups will take back a dog any reason any time.  Some even have CONTRACTS that say you should do that if you feel you can't keep them.

Boo to them and boo to the rescue group for letting them adopt the dog in the first place.  Can you call the group anonymously or send them an email and tell them where the dog is?  Maybe they can get it out of there and successfully rehome him.

I understand that some dogs just don't work for some people and that is fine, but when people don't do their homework or aren't willing to properly care for the animal (such as force the dog to learn manners, get it proper training, proper medical attention, etc, etc....) that pisses me off.

You don't want to get me riled up about this topic.  ;-)

  • Like Jen said, I bet the rescue group they adopted from has a stated policy on what to do if the dog is not working out in your home.  I can't believe they just returned him to a regular pound. I am betting the rescue would be very angry about this. I second trying to find out where they got the dog from and anonymously reporting to the rescue that the dog was taken to the pound.  Poor dog. Sad

  • I'm going to try to find out what group she got him from and where she dumped him; it may not work, but at least I will make the calls if she'll give me the info.  She's in south FL, so it may be too vast for me to orchestrate from afar.  Sad  But I'm going to try - thanks for the idea.

I am just glad that other people are as offended by this as I am.  I could slap the next person who tells me she did the right thing in all this.

  • Ditto Stacy...if its a reputable rescue group they are going to be livid.

At least I sure would be if I ran a rescue group (life goal #31)

  • Totally see what you can do.  Most rescue groups make you sign a contract saying you will return the animal to them if it does not work out. We had to sign one when we adopted Shadow (Vampire Kitteh).  I am sure they would try to get him back.
