Formula and poop?

So I was used to the frequent explosions while DD was on breastmilk for a week. She's been on full formula for about a week now and just the past two days has only produced 1 poop. It's not runny, rather, it's pretty thick - not formed though. I forget the poopage with a newborn on formula.... should I expect this or call the Pedi? TIA.

Re: Formula and poop?

  • DD only has one poop every day to every other day. Sometimes they are runny and sometimes more like pudding. As long as they are not hard pellets, then she is fine. Babies can go for days without pooping and are not considered constipated. For babies it is the consistency of the poop, not the frequency that determines constipation.

  • Yeah formula fed baby poop is more brown in color and is thicker like a pudding consistency instead of the more liquid-y yellowish BF baby poop. Also it is normal for babies to poop only once a week, especially the older they get. And this is more the case for FF babies the BF since the formula takes a bit longer to process in their system. This will especially happen when switching them over to formula at first because it can take weeks for their system to adjust to the new formula.

Like the PP said unless they are hard pellets/balls of poop when she finally does go it should be fine.
