D.C. Area Babies

OB recommendations in NOVA?

Just moved to the DC area and on top of moving, getting accquainted with a new city and adjusting to a whole new life, we just find out we're pregnant. Happy - very, anxious - even more so.... we haven't even found a home to live in... we are subletting and have roomates fror crying out loud!

In light of a baby on the way, we are now planning on moving to VA (more space, more affordable) - most likely in the Kingstowne area in Alexandria. Does anyone know of a good OB or hospital specializing in maternal care in the area?

While I'm at it.... does anyone have an opinion on whether VA is a better place to move to compared to MD (better medical facilities/daycare/schools/amenities)? We need to be accesible to DC for work and are trying to live close to the metro so we can commute easily. It's hard to figure all this out when we're brand new to the area and don't have any friends who can make recommendations... and on a budget *sigh*.

Re: OB recommendations in NOVA?

  • Fairfax INOVA hospital specialized in women and children, this is where we are planning on going for delivery. In fact, I switched OB's to deliver here, plus it's close to our home. I've had several girlfriends deliver here and said how easy it was, the staff was very nice and knowledgeable. The few times I went to visit newborns I too was impressed with the staff.

Dr. Kathy Wolf is an OB near the hospital too. I switched to her based on recommendations and couldn't be happier with my decision. She is busy but will work you in since you are pregnant, they did this for me, my hus' and I feel totally comfortable there.

We live in VA and I commute in, it's not too bad, or at least that's what I tell myself every day. Personally I think that commuting is a bear no matter where you are around here.

Good luck house hunting, it can be totally overwhelming but you'll feel better once you start to settle in.

I am too far out in the boonies to be of help:)

  • 1) Capital Women's Care in Alexandria is fantastic - all of the doctors are great.  Hou delivered my son and Stas is my regular GYN.  Hibschman and Kusic are also fantastic.  Can't recommend them enough!

    2) I think VA is better in terms of what you are seeking.  Fairfax County and Arlington County have some of the best schools in the country, but there are certainly great parts of MD as well.

Welcome to the area - good luck!

  • Dr. Wolf is my doctor too, and I LOVE her. Amazing bedside manner, and, from all accounts great skills too (a friend of mine was a NICU nurse and picked Dr. Wolf bc the Inova Fairfax NICU nurses told her Dr. Wolf was the best dr who delivers there).

I second this. I had a fantastic experience with CWC in Alexandria, and they are located about 2 miles from Kingstowne. I loved all the Drs that do OB services. I spent a month on hospital bedrest at Inova Fairfax (where they have excellent--if not the best--maternal care in the region) and I saw a dr. from CWC at least once everyday, so I got to know all the dr's really well. Dr. Kusic is my main dr. but Dr. Stas delivered my babies b/c she was on call when they decided to deliver. I can't say enough good things about them.

I am a new patient of Dr. Wolfe's as well!!!  I asked around at work and among a few close friends and her name came up a few times.  I have my first appointment with her the second week in April.

Congrat's on surviving the move and on your new addition.
