July 2011 Moms

frustrated about EDD

I had an appointment with my OBGYN today...and she kept saying that being only 21 weeks I should or shouldn't be feeling this way or that.  But in my mind I'm 22 weeks...based on my dating ultrasound.

I asked her about it and she said that they have my due date as 7/29/11 in the computer - based on when I thought I might have had my last period.  I wasn't 100% but I knew it was around that week.  My dating ultrasound said my EDD was 7/25/11.  They will go with 7/29 because that's the original date based on my LMP and it's not more than a week off.

Now I know it's only 4 days but I was so excited that I was 22w0d and was soooo upset to be put back to 21w3d.  I don't like this going backwards business...

Oh well.  Just seems stupid that they even sent me for a dating ultrasound if they don't use that date.

Sorry for the lame frustration post.

Re: frustrated about EDD

  • I'm guessing they did a dating ultrasound to see if you were more than 1-2 weeks off on your EDD- otherwise, they rarely change it.

4 days may seem like a lot- but you could have a full-term baby within a range of 3-5 weeks!!  If you are an impatient person (like me), here's hoping that your baby comes on the earlier side- 37 weeks or so.

  • I'd just leave it 22 weeks and call it a day.

4 days is nothing. My own OB doesn't even mess with due dates until it gets to be 2 weeks off.

Baby could be early. Baby could be late. Baby could be on time. Pick the date that's most fun to you and go with it.

  • Good news is that you'll be given more time for LO to cook in there before induction and things like that are discussed!!

    This.

ITA. Based on my LMP I should be a month ahead..but found out otherwise at my first u/s. My period was always irregular..I ended up ovulating super late that month!

  • every time i talk to someone they tell me a different date. my doc said 7/28, the ultrasounds always say 7/27, other docs i've met with have said the 29th... it's like no one talks to each other. it seriously drives me nuts. what else are they going to have 3 different stories on?

  • Seems silly that they trust your LMP more and you said it was just a guess.

I had an ultrasound tech tell me that due dates change constantly because they are based on measurements. Early on, she said the difference in a date could be as little as a millimeter.

I have been told 7/3, 7/4, and 7/6. My doctor goes by the 7/6 due date. I have always gone by the first due date that I was given which is 7/4. in all honesty, it really doesn't even matter because a EDD is exactly that. An estimation. Our LO's will get here when they're ready, regardless.

  • My midwife goes with the original LPM EDD which is 7/26 as do I, and when I get ultrasounds they go by the date the ultrasound tech got when she did my dating which is 7/30. My baby is measuring a couple days small even though I'm measuring on track by fundal height so even though I like saying "my due date is July 26" there isnt a doubt in my mind that I'll be delivering an 'overdue' baby which is fine with me. It isnt a huge deal to doctors which date we use because they are so close together but it matters a lot to us moms so I think they just let us think what we want as to not rain on our parade.

  • I had the same question for my doc. I couldn't remember when my LMP was so I just gave then a date which I thought to be right, well when we had the first u/s it said I was a week behind. When we had our 18 week u/s she was measuring right on schedule with my LMP. It is def all about the measurements and the docs will only change it if there is a significant correlation between the time and the measurements.

We go today for our anatomy scan, so hopefully she is growing right on schedule!

  • I guess it's pretty typical.  My OB won't change the date unless it's more than a week off.  We also went by LMP which puts me at 7/18.  First u/s at 8 weeks put me at 7/23.  A/S at 21 weeks put me at 7/16.  So we're sticking with 7/18.

  • My Dad is an OB and he said that the first ultrasound (8wks) is the most accurate at determining EDD- that the others are less accurate b/c babies go through growth spurts, which can skew the estimate.

  • Haha- i felt the same way with my first pregnancy and then when the due date passed...and another week passed I realized that it means nada...it's a ballpark number and you should expect baby to join you +/- 2 weeks on either side...

  • IMO the best part of a EDD is that baby comes when baby comes and really, that's what it's all about.
