Using One-size CD on Newborns?

Just wondering how well one size fits all diapers fit on newborns.  I'm expecting in may and all I have in my stash right now is one-size diapers.  Are these likely to be too big on my LO at first.  Any CD suggestions for newborns?

  • They will be way too big.

  • One size are generally too big for newborns, which means they will leak.

I bought some infant prefolds and some GMD infant fitteds, and some covers (thirsties duos size one, bummies XS and S). Prefolds and covers are the cheapest option, but there are also sized pockets or AIO in XS, if you want.

  • I don't have any real life experience, but I've heard the One Size will be too big.

I am buying newborn (and preemie cos I'm having twins and expect them to be small) sized prefold diapers and covers.  I got some off Green Mountain Diapers.  prefolds and covers are a cheap way to go.

There are also newborn diaper rental packages if you don't want to buy.

  • One Size will be way too big on a newborn (and that's from the mom of a 10 pounder).

  • Depends on what kind of one size diapers you have.  My SIL and I both use Softbums and love them.  She started using them on her twins when they were 1 month old, and they were preemies.  They fit great and never leaked.  When I saw how great the same diaper also fit my 18 month old son I was convinced.  Softbums are all I have in my stash!

  • My DD's OS pockets didn't fit until she was about 4 months old.

I have NB fitteds (KL0), NB AIO (BG xs), NB PF, and NB covers to work until this next baby is big enough for OS.

  • Yes, they will likely be way too big. Most OS diapers don't fit until around 10-12 lb, which in DD's case was almost 3 months.

There are sized pockets, AIOs, and fitteds. You have a lot of options depending on the type you want to use. See the review chart in the FAQs for some ideas.

  • The only OS that fit my son were Rumparooz (DS was 5 1/2-6lbs when he fit in them).

A lot of people just get prefolds and covers for the nb stage and some use disposables. We had about 24 prefolds, 4 covers, 7 fitteds, 3 BG xs AIO's along with the 4 Rumparooz that fit him and that was more than enough.
