In between sizes - no longer 24m, not quite 2T

Jacob got some super cute summer clothes for his birthday this weekend that were 2T.  But, my God, those things are HUGE!  Not really the shirts, but definitely the pants!  There is no way he's going to fit in them!

FWIW - He is the correct length for 2T clothes.  He measured 36.5" this morning.  But he weighs 29.5lbs and has no belly at all.  He's super tall, which makes him pretty thin.  The pants are going to be so big in the waist!

When we went to Jamaica last month, I had to break out his summer stuff from last year, most of which were 18m and they fit him pretty well!

This is going to be tough to go shopping for him to get him spring and summer clothes since he's not really in either size!

Re: In between sizes - no longer 24m, not quite 2T

  • Toodle is the exact same way! He is tall for his age (at least 35" by now at 21 months) but he only weighs 26 lbs. His 24 month pants and t shirts are all getting pretty short on him but 2Ts (especially pants) are enormous. For shirts, I do recommend crewcuts (the J Crew kids line). They run very slim because they're all hipster style, so they are good length on Toodle in a 2T but not super baggy on him. The one pair of pants I have from there are still too big in the waist though. Hoping once it's shorts season we can just get 24mos. and not have to worry about length.

  • My Jake is the same way- tall and lean.  I know my aunt (who has a 7 year old boy) buys all his pants at the gap because they have "slim" sizes.  That's the only way his pants are long enough but don't fall off his waist.  I'm not sure what size the slims start at, but it might be worth looking into :)
  • Cal's in this stage too...though, not b/c he's tall!  He's a little guy.  BTW, I just don't get what the difference is between 24 months & 2T!

  • Ava's had those issues too. She's now 42" and 31lbs, and I'm buying 3T now, they're a lil big, usually.

Gap has great pants that have the elastic button thing on the inside to make the waist smaller, We love those. (we love them more when I get them as hand-me-downs from a dear friend)  No pants are ever long enough.

I will say that the 2-3 months prior to her 3rd Bday (march8) she grew about 3 inches, and gained no/little weight. I have no idea if that's normal, but it's what it is for us.

  • We have the same problem here. She is over 36" and can fit upto 3t for height but could still be 24months for waist..she is tall and lean..making it very hard to shop :(

  • We have the same problem. I have tried to put 24 month pants on Hayden and they are super super long. He wears 24 month/2T shirts but still wears 18 month pants. I have tried on some 24 month shorts which seem to be ok but we will see once it warms up.

Seasoul- From what I understand 24 month shirts are slightly shorter than 2T shirts. 24 months pants/shorts are wider in the butt to fit a diaper where 2T are slimmer for kids who are potty trained.

  • ditto on the Gap...I have been able to go upto 3t with a good fit around the waist and perfect for length..just caught their 30% sale cause it could get expensive..booo

Seasoul-I was told 24months takes into consideration the child is in diapers whild 2t doesn't take this into account givin it less room in the caboose..make any sense??

  • Oh boy now you have me wondering if Nicholas will fit into the summer clothes he got last year for this year.   My mom bought him a ton of stuff in 24month/2T size.   I sure hope they fit for at least a few months.

  • DD is the same.  24 months don't quite fit in the crotch, but 2T are super long.

Which is why we are hoping the weather stays warm because she's wearing sundresses.  I guess that's not much help to you...

It totally does.  But what about tops?  What's the difference there?

hmmmmm..good question..I guess if I have gone larger size I may have just rolled up a sleeve or two..don't really remember much of a difference...

  • Old Navy, Gap, and JCP all carry adjustable waist band, I have to buy my kids clothes this way too!

  • We also buy the adjustable waist pants, but I'm cheap... I buy the Osh Kosh brand at Target! It's about $12 for jeans at full price, but I usually buy on sale. :)

I have to cinch his pants waaaaaaaay in, or they totally fall down. Hahaha...
