  We got a number of cute things...Plush Noah and the Ark set, Ceramic crucifix for his room, a few different rosaries, Board books:  My First Bible, Noah and the Ark, picture frame with the saying "God danced on the day you were born" (or something like that), money and a number of non-religious toys and clothes.

  Lucas got literally 1 gift, everything else was money/bonds. I did get my nephew a personalized crystal frame for his, and my cousin said it was the best gift he got.

  I bought both of my godson's a stock at oneshare.com.  For one that had his nursery decorated with Winnie the Pooh, I got a share of Disney.  The other had his nursery decorated in a frog theme, so I got him a share of Leapfrog.  They will frame it (different colors/woods to choose from) and put a little plaque on it also.  Price depends on the current stock price of the company you choose.
