Babies on the Brain

I'm all for RF carseats and breastfeeding but ...

this seems a little excessive.

(found this in a carseat forum.)

I think if the kid can reach your breast and eat while you are both standing upright it might be time to think about weaning.

  • Maybe I don't understand right but how do you keep a kid that size rear facing?  Where are her legs?  Over her head?

  • Oh, how old is he?

    48 months

Perhaps, but I am still traumatized by the Five Guys incident in which I witnessed a child eat a whole cheese burger, fries, and then walk over to mom for some boob.

I'm amazed the kid had any room left after a Five Guys burger. lol.

  • Yeah to each their own.  Not something I would do but if it works for them...so be it.

I plan on BFing Avery past a year even though my friends are telling me how "creepy" it will be.

  • My boobs clenched for a second. I BFed both kids for over a year. They both quit me. I could never make it to 4. There is no way I could have BFed a newborn and a toddler. My boobs are wrecked as it is and the margaritas have been divine.

  • I am all for EBFing, but4 is a bit long for me. Also, I am pretty sure the recommendations are 2 yo and 30 something lbs. Again, perhaps a bit excessive. And the need to have a ticker to display it all - unnecessary and kind of AWish to me.

Ditto, except it's my husband who thinks it will be weird past a year. Too bad for him, lol.

A lot of kids will cross their legs (What's that called now? Criss-cross Applesauce?).  As long as they haven't outgrown the height/weight requirement it's more about comfort and preference of child/parent after 2 years.

    Yes!

Same here!  As long as we are both still enjoying BFIng (which I have a feeling Avery will still be enjoying it at that point since my breast are her best friends), we will continue.  Once one of us isn't happy anymore, we will start to wean.

  • I am not so much judging the fact that this woman is still doing those things (to each their own I guess) - I am judging the fact that she needs a ticker displaying it. I think it's really silly.

    This is a picture I found of a 4 & 1/2 year old RF:

I didn't know any better, so we turned SD at 1 year - she was already 26 pounds. She was almost 40 pounds before I looked much into car seats & found out how much safer extended RF & extended harnessing was. My goal became to keep her in a 5-point harness until age 6 - she'll turn 6 in May & is still 12-15 pounds shy of the harness weight limit on her seat, even though she is one of the biggest kids in her kindergarten class.

Our phantom children will be RF & harnessed as long as humanely possible. I've even rubbed off on DH - he is super-strict on kids being properly secured in vehicles & will not hesitate to write a citation to the parents if the kids aren't buckled properly/in the correct car seats - unfortunately,  the law only says RF until 1 year and 20 pounds (though it does say they have to be in a seat until 4'9").

  • BF that long is NMS, but the rear facing bit is.

    The ticker is AWish.
